Sam Rockwell<\/strong><\/a> wishes he got the chance to share the screen with a very good friend before his tragic passing.<\/p>\n In a new interview, the 56-year-old Oscar-winning actor admitted there are a few opportunities that were \u201csquandered\u201d that he now regrets.<\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span>\u201cI had two opportunities, maybe three, and they were squandered and I regret that,\u201d Sam<\/strong> shared on the Happy Sad Confused<\/em> podcast<\/a>. \u201cThere\u2019s a couple [of actors] \u2014 I could have worked with Nick Nolte, could have worked with Kurt Russell, really been kicking myself. Richard Jenkins. They\u2019re still out there, there\u2019s time.\u201d<\/p>\n Sam <\/strong>went on to say that his biggest regret is not taking up the opportunity to work on-screen with the late Philip Seymour Hoffman<\/strong><\/a>, who died in 2014 from a drug overdose at the age of 46.<\/p>\n \u201cBut Phil, we were very close, we were good friends and he directed me and he was just one of the guys,\u201d Sam <\/strong>said. \u201cHe was the guy.\u201d<\/p>\n While they never shared the screen, Philip<\/strong> once directed Sam <\/strong>in a Public Theater play in New York City.<\/p>\n Sam<\/strong> went on to say the late fellow Oscar winner had \u201cso much work ahead of him and he was a young guy and he was special.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cHe had the emotional power of a George C. Scott or John Malkovich, a kind of emotional ferocity, the kind of stuff that Laurie Metcalf does or Gary Oldman or John Malkovich,\u201d Sam <\/strong>described. \u201cHe had that emotional power \u2014 that\u2019s what my teacher used to call it, emotional power \u2014 and then he also was transformational and he could transform.\u201d<\/p>\n When Sam<\/strong> won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri <\/em>back in 2018, he paid tribute to Philip <\/strong>in his acceptance speech.<\/p>\n \u201cFor my old buddy Phil Hoffman!\u201d Sam<\/strong> concluded his speech as he lifted his trophy in the air.<\/p>\n Backstage at the awards show, Sam<\/strong> emotionally explained why he gave a shout-out to his \u201cold friend.\u201d<\/p>\n He was a great director, he believed in theater. He vowed to do a play a year, which I\u2019m not sure he got to do, he was very busy doing movies,\u201d Sam<\/strong> said at the time, per People<\/a><\/em>. \u201cBut he was a great inspiration and a great theater director. He was also a bit of a jock, he was a wrestler, he played basketball. He inspired me and I could go on for an hour about Phil Hoffman.
