Take a winding drive through the picturesque Sierra Nevada mountains, and you&#8217;ll find The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe nestled in the pine forests off the north shore of its namesake.<\/p>\n<p>The recent refresh extends to the hotel&#8217;s guest rooms, dining and lounging spaces, fitness center and pool cabanas, as well as a brand-new on-site market. Meanwhile, common spaces are decorated with outdoor-themed artwork by local artists, some of which is for sale.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jsx-792205009 tpg-gallery\">\n<p>1<!-- --> of <!-- -->4<\/p>\n<p>RACHEL CRAFT\/THE POINTS GUY<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Despite the hotel&#8217;s upscale feel (and price tag), the atmosphere in the dining and lounge spaces was casual enough to make this mountain girl feel right at home. For me, that&#8217;s what really captures the spirit of mountain living.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"the-rooms\" class=\"jsx-2362441780 anchor\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"jsx-2362441780\">The rooms<\/h2>\n<p>The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe is home to 170 updated guest rooms and suites. Both the bedroom and living room had TVs, fireplaces and mountain-view balconies. There was also a minifridge, complimentary bottled water, a coffee and tea station, a desk, and a small table with chairs for dining.<\/p>\n<div class=\"jsx-792205009 tpg-gallery\">\n<p>1<!-- --> of <!-- -->4<\/p>\n<p>RACHEL CRAFT\/THE POINTS GUY<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The room felt luxurious and relaxing, with muted tones complemented by touches of marble and nature-inspired artworks. Plus, there were robes and virtually any toiletry item you could want. My ensuite bathroom&#8217;s soaking tub was perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring Tahoe. (I had some difficulty with the hot water, but I eventually realized that to get any heat you must turn the hot knob all the way, otherwise it will give you cold water.)<\/p>\n<div class=\"jsx-792205009 tpg-gallery\">\n<p>1<!-- --> of <!-- -->4<\/p>\n<p>RACHEL CRAFT\/THE POINTS GUY<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>I particularly enjoyed the nightly turndown service, which included dimmed lights, water and slippers within easy reach by the bed, mini chocolates on the pillows, spa music playing from the TV and an optional aromatherapy menu.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"dining-at-the-ritz-carlton-lake-tahoe\" class=\"jsx-2362441780 anchor\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"jsx-2362441780\">Dining at The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe<\/h2>\n<p>The property offers four dining outlets with elevated mountain fare in a hip, casual setting.<\/p>\n<p>Arranged around the hotel&#8217;s towering central pillar is the Living Room Lodge, a seat-yourself space where you can enjoy views of the surrounding trees or warm yourself by the fire while grabbing a bite (or a full meal). Indoors, the Cafe Blue coffee shop serves drinks that will put a pep in your step as well as grab-and-go breakfast and lunch bites, like a turkey burrito or vegan burrito ($17), muesli ($16) and alpine soup ($16).<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"amenities-and-service\" class=\"jsx-2362441780 anchor\"\/><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"jsx-2362441780\">Amenities and service<\/h2>\n<p>I experienced friendly, attentive service throughout my stay, whether I was ordering food or calling the front desk late at night for help connecting to the Wi-Fi. Guests can enjoy ski-in, ski-out access to the Northstar ski resort, with an inter-mountain gondola steps away from the property. Several other resorts are within driving distance, including Palisades Tahoe (on the <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/deals\/ikon-ski-pass\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ikon Pass<\/a>) and Heavenly Mountain (on the <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/travel\/epic-ski-pass\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Epic Pass<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>If you visit in the warmer months, hiking opportunities abound, including a 3-mile trail that you can access directly from the hotel.<\/p>\n<p>For an additional fee (which varies throughout the season), guests can access the supremely relaxing Lake Club. There&#8217;s also the private Truckee Tahoe Airport (TKR), only 15 minutes away.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re coming from RNO, the North Lake Tahoe Express shuttle stops at the Ritz-Carlton and costs $99 (with discounts for multiple passengers). Ubers from RNO hover around $90 each way.<\/p>\n<p>However, if you&#8217;re staying more than a day or two and want to take advantage of some of the nearby attractions, you&#8217;ll probably want to <a href=\"https:\/\/thepointsguy.com\/travel\/ways-to-save-on-rental-cars\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rent a car<\/a>.
