When Robert F. Kennedy Jr.<\/strong> announced earlier this month that he was firing<\/a> an entire panel of experts that makes recommendations about vaccines to the Centers for Disease Control, he boldly claimed<\/a> that the new members he\u2019d be handpicking would earn back public confidence in vaccine science because they would \u201cexercise independent judgment\u201d and \u201cfoster a culture of critical inquiry.\u201d\u00a0But would it surprise you to learn that the individuals Kennedy has hired so far include a person who believes vaccines cause autism, several who have testified as expert witnesses against vaccine makers,\u00a0and one who has called for the \u201cimmediate suspension\u201d of mRNA vaccines? If you know anything about Kennedy it won\u2019t, and if you\u2019re just getting up to speed, prepare for a wild, terrifying ride.<\/p>\n NBC News reports<\/a> that of the eight people Kennedy has appointed to the CDC panel:<\/p>\n As a reminder, Kennedy himself is\u00a0a notorious anti-vaxxer<\/a>\u00a0who has\u00a0falsely claimed<\/a>\u00a0vaccines cause autism and whose vaccine disinformation campaign has been linked to\u00a0a measles outbreak<\/a>\u00a0in Samoa that killed at least 83 people, many of whom were children. He also appears to believe that antibiotics can treat a virus<\/a>, because he got his medical degree at Whale Juice<\/a> and Bear Carcass<\/a> University. (Just kidding, of course: that would be preferable; he doesn\u2019t actually have a medical degree and has said<\/a> people shouldn\u2019t take his medical advice.)<\/p>\n Commenting on Kennedy\u2019s firing of experts and hiring of the above, Matt Motta,<\/strong> an assistant professor of health law and policy at Boston University\u2019s School of Public Health, told NBC News: \u201cThis is an attempt to replace one of the most powerful and important vaccine advisory groups in perhaps the world with folks who are anti-vaccine,\u201d adding that he fears the group would not recommend future lifesaving mRNA vaccines, even if there was data supporting doing so.
