\nA Seoul appellate court on Tuesday dismissed an appeal by the members of K-pop girl group NewJeans, effectively reaffirming a ban on the group pursuing any independent activities outside of their agency, ADOR.<\/p>\n

A Seoul appellate court has dismissed NewJeans’ appeal to overturn the injunction granted to ADOR in March that blocks the group members from independently pursuing activities.<\/p>\n
In May, the existing injunction was strengthened when the Seoul Central District Court ruled that the NewJeans members would be fined \u20a91B (~730K USD\/992K CAD) per infraction per member involved. The court based its decision in part on NewJeans’ recent ComplexCon Hong Kong appearance (at which they attempted to re-brand\/”re-debut” as NJZ). The fine is purely on a go-forward basis, meaning that while the ComplexCon appearance violated the earlier injunction the NewJeans members will not be fined for the incident. A repeat, however, would cost the group \u20a95B.<\/p>\n
Today’s dismissal further recognizes ADOR’s “exclusive rights as the group’s management agency under parent company HYBE”.<\/p>\n
The civil suit filed by ADOR to uphold its exclusive contract with NewJeans is continuing separately.<\/p>\n
