Tom Schwartz<\/a><\/span><\/strong> is giving Jax Taylor<\/strong> credit where credit is due.<\/p>\n

\u201cI see that he\u2019s trying, trying to be better,\u201d Tom, 42, exclusively shared with Us Weekly<\/i> on Tuesday, June 17, while promoting new episodes of The Valley<\/i><\/span><\/a>. \u201cI know that he\u2019s 202 days sober maybe today, which is impressive, especially still being a partner in a bar.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the improvements, Tom believes his longtime friend and former Vanderpump Rules<\/i><\/span><\/a> costar is still a work in progress.<\/p>\n

\u201cIs he cured? No, he\u2019s not,\u201d Tom continued. \u201cHe\u2019s still Jax Taylor, and he\u2019s still capable of being a menace, and he\u2019s got a lot of work to do and he knows this. He\u2019ll say the same thing. He\u2019s like, \u2018Yes, I think I\u2019m on the right path, but I still have a long way to go.\u2019 He\u2019s got a lot of work to do. He\u2019s got a lot of demons. He really does.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Tuesday\u2019s episode of The Valley<\/i>, viewers will watch Jax, 45, return home from a 30-day stay at an undisclosed mental health treatment facility, where he received professional help for his anger issues.<\/p>\n

In March, Jax also revealed on Alex Baskin<\/strong>\u2018s \u201cHot Mic\u201d podcast<\/span><\/a> that he is an addict and has struggled with substance issues<\/span><\/a>, particularly cocaine use.<\/p>\n

During a previous episode of The Valley<\/i>, Brittany Cartwright<\/strong> announced she was planning to divorce<\/span><\/a> Jax after five years of marriage. The couple share 4-year-old son Cruz.<\/p>\n

After years of celebrating great highs and dramatic lows side by side on Vanderpump Rules<\/i>, Tom hopes he can remain friends with both Jax and Brittany, 36 \u2014<\/b> even if the exes rarely see eye to eye.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a reputation as being Mr. Ride the Fence, but it\u2019s like I\u2019m trying to hold compassion for this guy who\u2019s at one of the lowest moments in his life, even though he did it to himself,\u201d Tom explained. \u201cI\u2019m also not excusing any vile or despicable behavior towards Britney or anything. I still love her. She\u2019s one of my dearest friends, too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tom confirmed that he remains neighbors with Jax after he decided to move out of his and Brittany\u2019s matrimonial home.<\/p>\n
