Kevin Spacey<\/a> – who was dropped from the programme before the final season after being accused of sexual misconduct – because he had won a Best Actor Oscar for American Beauty in 2000 and Best Supporting Actor for The Usual Suspects in 1996.<\/p>\nSpeaking at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival, Variety reports she said: \u201cWhen David Fincher introduced \u2018House of Cards\u2019 to me, he said, \u2018This is going to be the future, it\u2019s going to be revolutionary.’ And look where we are now.\u201d<\/p>\n
Of her fight for equal pay, she said: \u201cYes, it was difficult. I am going to be honest.<\/p>\n
“When I said, \u2018I think it\u2019s only fair because my character became as popular as [Spacey\u2019s], they said, \u2018We can\u2019t pay you the same as an actor, so we will make you exec producer and you can direct. We will give you three different paycheques.\u2019 I asked, \u2018Why can\u2019t you pay me as an actor?\u2019 \u2018Because you didn\u2019t win an Academy Award.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
\nBut Robin knew being angry \u201cwasn\u2019t going to change anything”.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cThat has been the protocol for years \u2014 it just is. If you say, \u2018Why did so-and-so female not get the same amount as Will Smith?\u2019 They say, \u2018It will increase after you win.\u2019 Nomination, not so much. Why does it have to do anything with a raise?\u201d<\/p>\n
\nHowever, Robin hailed getting to direct episodes of the show a “gift”.<\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cIt was the camera operator on \u2018House of Cards\u2019 who said, \u2018Why don\u2019t you just try?\u2019 I learned so much on that show. I didn\u2019t feel any pressure. I was encouraged to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nThe Princess Bride star – who has Dylan, 34, and Hopper, 31, with ex-husband Sean Penn – admitted House of Cards helped her through a “dry” period in her career.<\/p>\n
\nAsked her biggest achievements, she said: \u201cMy children are still alive. As for my career\u2026 There\u2019s this window in your late 30s and early 40s, and there were no roles. It was dry. That\u2019s when House of Cards came up. It helped me plateau for a while. I don\u2019t know if I would be able to get parts in films at the time.\u201d<\/p>\n
