My dominant side, my left side, is functioning. My right side has completely stopped working,\u201d he told Diane Sawyer.<\/p>\n<p>Dane went on to share the frightening experience of being diagnosed with this devastating illness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI started experiencing some weakness in my right hand. I went and saw a hand specialist, who sent me to another hand specialist. I went and saw a neurologist, and the neurologist sent me to another neurologist and said, \u2018This is way above my pay grade.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>After nine months of uncertainty, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehollywoodgossip.com\/2025\/06\/eric-dane-on-als-diagnosis-i-dont-feel-like-this-is-the-end-of-me\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dane finally received his diagnosis<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will never forget those three letters, [ALS]. It\u2019s on me the second I wake up. Though they still live in separate homes, they called off their divorce just weeks after Eric received his ALS diagnosis.<\/p>\n<p>Asked how he copes with his darkest moments, Dane revealed that he still reaches out to his ex-wife.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI call Rebecca. I talk to her every day. We have managed to become better friends and better parents and she is probably my biggest champion and most stalwart supporter and I lean on her,\u201d he told Sawyer.<\/p>\n<p>Eric concluded the emotional interview by revealing that he remains optimistic about his fate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think this is the end of the story,\u201d he said through tears. \u201cI just don\u2019t feel in my heart like this is the end of me.
