Amerie has split from her husband<\/p>\n

The 1 Thing hitmaker revealed she and Lenny Nicholson – with whom she has seven-year-old son River – have quietly parted ways and are in the process of getting divorced.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Way Up with Angela Yee, Amerie<\/a>, Muni Long and Jasmine Linford were discussing relationships and the host noted: \u201cAmerie been locked in for a long time.”<\/p>\n

But the 45-year-old star said: \u201cI was, but not now.”<\/p>\n

The trio seemed surprised and while talking over one another, Amerie<\/a> mentioned the word “divorced”.<\/p>\n

\nJasmine said: \u201cI missed that memo.”<\/p>\n

\nReferring to an appearance on the Joe Budden Podcast, Amerie said: \u201cBecause everyone didn\u2019t know that. I only mentioned it with Joe. I told him about it. We talked about it. It came up inadvertently.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nShe then clarified she and Lenny – who she met in 2007 and married in 2011 – are currently “going through” their divorce but had separated in 2023.<\/p>\n

\nAngela noted: \u201cIt takes a short time to get married and a long time to get divorced.”<\/p>\n

\nThe Paradise singer replied: \u201cThat\u2019s what they say.”<\/p>\n

\nAmerie was then asked if she is looking forward to dating again.<\/p>\n

\nShe noted: \u201cWell, it\u2019s been a couple of years since we\u2019ve been separated.”<\/p>\n

\nDespite the relationship ending, Amerie doesn’t regret her marriage.<\/p>\n

\nShe said: \u201cAll the relationships that we have I believe we have them because we\u2019re supposed to learn something, and so everything is a blessing. So I don\u2019t believe in, like, placeholders \u2026 everything is a lesson to help you grow.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nAnd when she is looking for a new partner, Amerie wants to find someone who can “amplify” her.<\/p>\n

\nShe said: \u201cOne thing that\u2019s important, too, is to remember you want to find someone that you can amplify, that amplifies you.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cBecause sometimes \u2014 and this is not necessarily my situation \u2014 but when I really started looking at it and I really started thinking about how people pair off and what that is … You can be with someone where you stay the same. You can be with someone that can dim your light, and maybe you dim their light. You can be with someone who amplifies you and who you amplify.\u201d<\/p>\n
