Time for the ultimate sequel! Lindsay Lohan<\/strong><\/a> and Jamie Lee Curtis<\/strong> <\/a>are in talks to return for a follow-up to their 2003 film, Freaky Friday<\/em>.<\/p>\n The former costars celebrated the OG movie\u2019s 20th anniversary with a joint New York Times<\/em><\/a> interview published on Wednesday, May 10. The outlet reported that Disney confirmed a sequel to the fantasy-comedy is in development, with Elyse Hollander<\/strong><\/a> writing the screenplay.<\/p>\n \u201cAs I went around the world with [the 2022 film] Halloween Ends<\/em><\/a>, people wanted to know if there was going to be another Freaky Friday<\/em>,\u201d Curtis, 64, explained. \u201cSomething really touched a chord. When I came back, I called my friends at Disney and said, \u2018It feels like there\u2019s a movie to be made.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Lohan, 36, added that she and the Trading Places<\/em> actress are \u201cboth open\u201d to reprising their roles as Anna and Tess Coleman, a mother-daughter duo who magically switch bodies amid their already fraught relationship.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re leaving it in the hands that be,\u201d the Mean Girls<\/em> star<\/a> said. \u201cWe would only make something that people would absolutely adore.\u201d<\/p>\n In addition to looking toward a new Freaky Friday<\/em> installment, the duo also reflected on their experience making the original<\/a>, which is itself a remake of the 1976 film of the same name.<\/p>\n \u201cI was in the middle of a book tour when my agent called. An actress had been involved in the movie and chose not to do it; I was a replacement part,\u201d Curtis recalled of joining the cast late in the process. \u201cHad I had all the time in the world to prepare, I don\u2019t think it would\u2019ve been so good. I just had to be in my body. I was also newly sober<\/a> and I was able to have a community within the movie-work world. That was a big deal for me.\u201d<\/p>\n The Knives Out<\/em> actress\u2019<\/a> performance garnered praise from critics, with the NYT<\/em>\u2019s own 2003 review<\/a> calling it a \u201cshame\u201d that her performance would likely be \u201coverlooked\u201d during Oscar season<\/a> due to her character\u2019s lack of \u201chistorical costumes\u201d and \u201cdebilitating ailment[s].\u201d (Curtis has since won<\/a> a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in the 2022 film Everything Everywhere All At Once<\/em>.)<\/p>\n The children\u2019s book author added that Lohan was \u201cas fluid as I was\u201d in the film and praised her acting chops.<\/p>\n \u201cShe has a facility as an actor that is really impressive. It was a big job. It was a big production. And our relationship<\/a> was very easy,\u201d Curtis shared.<\/p>\n The California native shares daughters<\/a> Annie, 36, and Ruby<\/a>, 27, with husband Christopher Guest<\/strong> <\/a>while Lohan is currently expecting<\/a> her first child with husband Bader Shammas<\/strong><\/a>, whom she wed<\/a> in April 2022. The actors both shared what Freaky Friday<\/em> taught them about parenting.<\/p>\n \u201cTo have more patience. You want to let them explore and live the way they need to live \u2014 with boundaries,\u201d said the Confessions of a Teenager Drama Queen<\/em> star. \u201cI\u2019m not there. I\u2019m getting there. In a year, come back to me and ask me what it\u2019s like. And then in 16 years.\u201d<\/p>\n Curtis, meanwhile, said: \u201cSuspend the judgment, open the ear, listen more. Also, as a parent<\/a>, we\u2019re sizing up all the time: shoes, clothes, foods. It\u2019s all future thought.
