In addition to forever being known as a US Open champion, the golfer who wins the 2025 tournament will take home a very hefty paycheck.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The victor of the 2025 US Open at Pennsylvania\u2019s Oakmont Country Club, which concludes on Sunday, June 15, will walk away with $4.3 million.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The overall purse of the tournament is $21.5 million, the most of any major tournament, which will be distributed amongst the other finishers. The Players Championship, which was won by Rory McIlroy<\/strong><\/a> in March, is the only tournament on the PGA Tour with a higher overall payout, with a total of $25 million.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Last year\u2019s US Open champion, Bryson DeChambeau<\/strong><\/a>, also won $4.3 million.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tCBS reporter Amanda Balionis raised some eyebrows with a sly comment made to Bryson DeChambeau after his final round at the 2025 PGA Championship. Balionis, 38, commended DeChambeau, 31, for agreeing to an interview with her after an underwhelming final round on Sunday, May 18 saw him fall out of contention.\u00a0 \u201cWe appreciate the time,\u201d [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

As for the other three majors, the Masters \u2014 also won by McIlroy, 35, in April \u2014 handed out a total of $21 million, last month\u2019s PGA Championship \u2014 won by Scottie Scheffler<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 handed out $19 million and last year\u2019s Open Championship \u2014 won by Xander Schauffele<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 had a purse of $17 million.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Individually speaking, McIlroy won $4.2 million for taking home his first Masters title earlier this year. Justin Rose<\/strong>, who McIlroy defeated on the first sudden death playoff hole<\/a> at the tournament, earned $2.268 million as the runner-up.<\/span><\/p>\n

Scheffler, 28, won $3.42 million for winning the PGA Championship in May.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

United States Golf Association CEO Mike Whan<\/strong> told Golf Digest<\/i><\/a> about the importance of the uptick in prize money across tournaments.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI feel comfortable that we\u2019ve been a leader in moving fast and bigger,\u201d Whan said in a story published on Wednesday, June 11. \u201cWe want to be relevant. We understand the competitive set. We know that this probably isn\u2019t really about the money for the person who [wins on Sunday], but at the same time, we want the money to be commensurate with the achievement.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Looking at the year-to-date earnings, Scheffler entered this week\u2019s US Open atop the list with $14.55 million in accrued prize money. In addition to his win at the PGA Championship, Scheffler emerged as the victor at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson in May and the Memorial Tournament earlier this month.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

McIlroy comes in just behind Scheffler with $13.97 million in earnings this year, after victories at the Masters, the Players Championship and the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February.<\/span><\/p>\n
