Avengers, assemble! Jeremy Renner<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s Marvel costars Chris Evans<\/strong><\/a> and Scarlett Johansson<\/strong><\/a> visited him after his near-fatal snowplow accident \u2014 and are grateful he survived.<\/p>\n \u201cI was honestly so f\u2014king happy to see him,\u201d Johansson, 38, told Variety<\/em><\/a> in a cover story interview published on Tuesday, May 9. \u201cI didn\u2019t know if I was ever going to see him again.\u201d<\/p>\n The Hawkeye<\/em> actor, 52 \u2014 who was starred alongside the Black Widow<\/em> actress in multiple Marvel movies \u2014 was nearly killed after being crushed by a snowplow<\/a> on New Year\u2019s Day in Reno, Nevada. Renner later recalled to Jimmy Kimmel<\/strong><\/a> that he broke \u201c35 or so\u201d bones in the January incident, after which he was airlifted to a nearby hospital and underwent surgery for his numerous injuries.<\/p>\n \u201cHe\u2019s a very spiritual person in general and a very soulful person. And you can see that in his work. It comes through,\u201d Johansson told Variety<\/em> about her observations in seeing Renner after the accident, gushing that the Hurt Locker star is \u201cthriving.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cHe has such a depth to him. And I just was so happy to see that he is full of life and light, and he\u2019s also hilarious,\u201d she continued. \u201cWe laughed a lot.\u201d<\/p>\n Evans, who was with Johansson as they visited Renner in Los Angeles, agreed. \u201cNo tears at all. As he recalled in a sit-down with Diane Sawyer<\/strong><\/a> last month, the Town<\/em> actor was operating a large snowplow in order to help his 27-year-old nephew, Alex Fries<\/strong>, get a car out of the snow in the driveway. In order to make sure his nephew was safe in between the car and the snowplow, Renner leaned halfway out of the vehicle \u2014 only to fall underneath it.<\/p>\n \u201cI just happened to be the dummy standing on the dang track a little bit, seeing if my nephew was there,\u201d Renner recalled. \u201cYou should be inside the vehicle when you\u2019re operating [it,] you know what I mean? It\u2019s kind of like driving a car with your foot outside the car \u2026 It is what it was. And it\u2019s my mistake, and I paid for it.\u201d<\/p>\n Fries remembered seeing his uncle lying in a \u201cpool of blood.\u201d \u201cI didn\u2019t think he was alive,\u201d Renner\u2019s nephew told Sawyer.<\/p>\n
