Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice! Michael Keaton<\/strong><\/a> and Jenna Ortega<\/strong><\/a> have been confirmed as the stars of the upcoming Beetlejuice<\/em> sequel.<\/p>\n Beetlejuice 2<\/em> will hit theaters on September 6, 2024, Warner Bros. announced. According to a Variety<\/em><\/a> report published on Tuesday, May 9. Keaton, 71, and Winona Ryder<\/strong><\/a> will be reprising their roles as Beetlejuice<\/a> and Lydia Deetz, respectively. Ortega, 20, has signed on to play Ryder\u2019s daughter while Justin Theroux<\/strong><\/a> joined the cast in a yet-to-be-revealed role.<\/p>\n According to the outlet, Brad Pitt<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s production company, Plan B, will produce the project, which was penned by Mike Vukadinovich<\/strong>. The movie is scheduled to begin production in London on Wednesday, May 10.<\/p>\n News of the follow-up film comes 35 years after the iconic Tim Burton<\/strong><\/a> film\u2019s initial release. The original flick also starred Alec Baldwin<\/strong><\/a>, Geena Davis<\/strong><\/a>, Jeffrey Jones<\/strong><\/a> and Catherine O\u2019Hara<\/strong><\/a>. The comedy-horror movie\u00a0<\/a>follows the lives of a recently deceased couple \u2014 played by Davis, 67, and Baldwin, 65 \u2014 as they navigate the afterlife when a new family moves into their old home. The ghosts are initially annoyed with Jones and O\u2019Hara\u2019s characters\u2019 antics so they enlist the help of Keaton\u2019s Beetlejuice to haunt them<\/a> and spook them out of the house.<\/p>\n The cult classic earned $80 million at the box office and has become a pop culture staple, going on to inspire an animated series and a Tony-nominated Broadway musical<\/a>. Talks of a sequel had been in the works but did not come to fruition until now.<\/p>\n In January 2015, Ryder, 51, revealed she heard the next installment was \u201cgoing to happen<\/a>\u201d at some point.<\/p>\n \u201cI first heard about it a few years ago when I was in Toronto doing press for The Iceman<\/em>,\u201d the Stranger Things<\/em><\/a> star recalled during an appearance for HuffPost Live<\/a> at the time. \u201cThe guy interviewing me was like\u2026 \u2018Beetlejuice 2!<\/em>\u2019 and I was like \u2018What?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n She continued: \u201cAs far as I know, it\u2019s going to happen.\u201d<\/p>\n Ortega, for her part, has become well-known as a spooky starlet<\/a>. In addition to starring as Tara Carpenter in Scream 5<\/em> and 6<\/em>, she\u2019s gained critical acclaim for her role as the titular character in Netflix\u2019s Wednesday<\/em><\/a> series.
