\t\t<\/p>\n The Golden Bachelor<\/em> winner Theresa Nist<\/strong><\/a> is slamming the comments made by her ex-husband Gerry Turner<\/strong><\/a>, which suggested that their marriage ended because of his cancer diagnosis.<\/p>\n The former couple got married in January 2024 during a live TV special<\/a> and then announced their divorce<\/a> just three months later in April 2024. Gerry<\/strong> then spoke out in December 2024 to reveal his cancer diagnosis<\/a>. <\/p>\n About how the diagnosis impacted their relationship, he shared, \u201cWhen you are hit with that kind of news and the shock wears off after a few days or a few weeks and you regroup and you realize what\u2019s important to you, that\u2019s where you start to move forward. And I hope that people understand in retrospect now that that had a huge bearing on my decisions and I think probably Theresa<\/strong>\u2018s as well.\u201d<\/p>\n Gerry <\/strong>later spoke out to clarify that they didn\u2019t split because of the cancer diagnosis, but now Theresa <\/strong>is reflecting on those comments in a new interview on iHeartRadio\u2019s Almost Famous Podcast<\/em> with Ben Higgins<\/strong><\/a> and Ashley Iaconetti<\/strong><\/a>. <\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n \u201cI was just so surprised that he even said that I knew about the cancer a long time ago,\u201d she said. \u201cThe way Gerry <\/strong>presented it to me was that, \u2018The doctor said that I\u2019m going to die of old age before this cancer gets to me.\u2019 He bluffed it off, like it really wasn\u2019t that important, and he had no symptoms, and he still doesn\u2019t. So we never had a conversation that said, \u2018Oh my gosh, you\u2019re sick. I can\u2019t stay with you now. I have to leave.\u2019 That never happened.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cI would have never left my husband over an illness,\u201d Theresa <\/strong>added. <\/p>\n If you didn\u2019t know Theresa<\/strong>\u2018s first husband died in hospice care in 2014 after a 42-year marriage.<\/p>\n Theresa<\/strong> thinks that Gerry <\/strong>may have wanted empathy from the public.<\/p>\n \u201cDid he want empathy from the public?\u201d she said. \u201cI was angry that he would say something like that, but then I am such an understanding person, and I can put myself easily in someone else\u2019s shoes.
