The \u2018King of Queens\u2019 actress, 54, joined the group aged 13 when her mother became a member, and described the organisation\u2019s control over every aspect of her life in a candid new interview about the impact it has had on her and her family\u2019s lives.<\/p>\n

She spoke to UsWeekly about her ongoing trauma about extracting herself from the church after filing a civil harassment lawsuit against the Church of Scientology in 2023, alleging it orchestrated a campaign of stalking and intimidation against her and her 20-year-old daughter Sofia \u2013 with a trial scheduled for October.<\/p>\n

Leah\u2019s efforts to expose the Church\u2019s practices began with her 2015 memoir, \u2018Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology\u2019, and continued with the Emmy-winning docuseries \u2018Leah Remini<\/a>: Scientology and the Aftermath\u2019. <\/p>\n

She added: \u201cThey harass my underage daughter online. They\u2019ve (used) a Scientology term that means to kill me (and) basically to erase me from the face of the earth. <\/p>\n

\n\u2013When you talk to a lawyer, they say, \u2018It\u2019s going to cost you more to defend yourself than to pay them off\u201d.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cAnd Scientology knows that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nA representative for the Church told UsWeekly: \u201cAll allegations of harassment, break-ins and other salacious alleged conduct are false.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nLeah added about her time in the Church: \u201cWe (had) to report to our ethics departments \u2013 the Scientology police \u2014 and that\u2019s an everyday activity. <\/p>\n

\n\u201cOnce your parents become Scientologists, they\u2019re no longer your parents.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nHer break from the Church came after she was ordered to cut ties with her mother and stepfather for allegedly violating Scientology policy. <\/p>\n

\nShe said: \u201cThat\u2019s when I found the Brooklyn girl in me.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nLeah credits the late Mike Rinder \u2013 a former high-ranking Scientologist who left in 2007 \u2013 with helping her escape. <\/p>\n

\nShe said: \u201cMike was the first person I called when I was thinking of leaving. That alone was a high crime in Scientology.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cHe was so comforting.\u201d<\/p>\n

\nLeah said the Church continues to harass Sofia online, and that the pressure has taken a toll.<\/p>\n

\nThe actress added: \u201cShe\u2019s constantly petrified that her phone is being tapped.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cI had to get her help for that, and she\u2019s OK; we got through a rough patch.\u201d<\/p>\n
