{"id":172486,"date":"2025-06-04T10:05:52","date_gmt":"2025-06-04T10:05:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2025\/06\/04\/karate-kid-legends-star-jackie-chan-learnt-english-through-country-music\/"},"modified":"2025-06-04T10:05:52","modified_gmt":"2025-06-04T10:05:52","slug":"karate-kid-legends-star-jackie-chan-learnt-english-through-country-music","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/entertainment.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2025\/06\/04\/karate-kid-legends-star-jackie-chan-learnt-english-through-country-music\/","title":{"rendered":"Karate Kid: Legends star Jackie Chan learnt English through country music"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"byline\">\n<p>        <time itemprop=\"datePublished\" content=\"2025-06-04\" datetime=\"1749031552\" pubdate=\"\">4 June 2025<\/time>\n    <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.femalefirst.co.uk\/jackie-chan\/\" class=\"exposure-link \" data-linktrack=\"LinkTracker,articleExposure,jackie-chan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jackie Chan<\/a> learnt English through country music.<\/p>\n<p>                            <\/p>\n<p class=\"image-caption landscape\">Jackie Chan learnt how to speak English by listening to slow country music songs<\/p>\n<p>The 71-year-old actor &#8211; who grew up in Hong Kong and whose native language is Cantonese &#8211; found it easier to follow the lyrics of the genre because the songs are typically fairly &#8220;slow&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>During an appearance on \u2018The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.femalefirst.co.uk\/kelly-clarkson\/\" class=\"exposure-link \" data-linktrack=\"LinkTracker,articleExposure,kelly-clarkson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kelly Clarkson<\/a> Show\u2019 on Tuesday (03.06.25), he said: &#8220;I learn English in country songs because country songs [are] slow.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Jackie then went on to sing the chorus from &#8216;Always on My Mind&#8217; by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.femalefirst.co.uk\/willie-nelson\/\" class=\"exposure-link \" data-linktrack=\"LinkTracker,articleExposure,willie-nelson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Willie Nelson<\/a>, which sparked cheers from the audience and thrilled the host.<\/p>\n<p>Kelly exclaimed: &#8220;I just got serenaded by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.femalefirst.co.uk\/jackie-chan\/\" class=\"exposure-link \" data-linktrack=\"LinkTracker,articleExposure,jackie-chan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jackie Chan<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;That&#8217;s how I&#8217;m going to take this day away.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\nIn 1998&#8217;s &#8216;Rush Hour&#8217;, Jackie was famously asked by co-star Chris Tucker: \u201cDo you understand the words that are coming out of my mouth?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\nAnd the &#8216;Karate Kid: Legends&#8217; star admitted he didn&#8217;t have &#8220;a clue&#8221; what his castmate was saying throughout the film.<\/p>\n<p>\nHe said: \u201cThe whole movie, I don\u2019t know what Chris Tucker\u2019s saying. Not a clue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\nJackie admitted his dialogue was &#8220;different&#8221; in &#8220;every shot&#8221; because of his struggles to get to grips with what was being said.<\/p>\n<p>\nHe said: \u201cMy dialogue coach sits right behind the camera. Every scene, every shot, different dialogue.<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;Every shot [was] different. Every time I just watched behind [the camera], the dialogue coach [went], &#8216;Your turn. OK, let&#8217;s go.'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\nKelly asked the &#8216;Ride On&#8217; actor if there was an &#8220;improv moment&#8221; when he did not understand what a fellow &#8216;Rush Hour&#8217; cast member or crew member was saying, and he admitted there were many.<\/p>\n<p>\nJackie said: &#8220;Yes!<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;The worst thing [was when they said], &#8216;Cut. Take a rest. Jackie&#8230; [then something quickly]&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>\n&#8220;Then [I] turned around and said to my dialogue coach, &#8216;What did he say?&#8217; [They] speak so fast!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\nIn his latest movie &#8216;Karate Kid: Legends&#8217;, Jackie returns as Mr. Han and mentors his young nephew Li (Ben Wang) in martial arts after he is subject to bullying at school in New York City, and the screen legend admitted he did not need any training because he has learnt fight choreography since the 1960s.<\/p>\n<p>\nJackie &#8211; who joined the &#8216;Karate Kid&#8217; franchise in 2010 alongside Jaden Smith &#8211; said: \u201cI don\u2019t need to anymore. I\u2019ve been training every day for 64 years.
