Colin Farrell<\/strong> and Margot Robbie<\/strong> were both looking for some magic.<\/p>\n Each of them had recently made the biggest projects of their careers. Robbie\u2019s was Barbie<\/em><\/a>,<\/em> the $1.4 billion blockbuster hit that earned eight Oscar nominations. Farrell\u2019s was The Penguin<\/a>,<\/em> the gritty HBO series in which he transformed (with about three hours a day of prosthetics and makeup) into Gotham City\u2019s infamous villain.<\/p>\n They followed up those two iconic characters with A Big Bold Beautiful Journey,<\/em> an original romance about two strangers taken on an unexpected journey. \u201cGoing from The Penguin<\/em> to this was quite simply stepping from the darkness into the light,\u201d Farrell tells Vanity Fair.<\/em> \u201cAs amazing as it was to work on The Penguin,<\/em> that story was all about trauma and its various articulations and calcifications. This film is all about letting go of trauma\u2014moving past it.\u201d<\/p>\n Though Robbie had produced other projects in the interim, she hadn\u2019t stepped in front of a camera since making Barbie<\/em> in 2022. \u201cI think that\u2019s the longest break I\u2019ve ever had between jobs.
