Rick Astley<\/a>, the British pop sensation whose catchy \u201980s tune \u201cNever Gonna Give You Up\u201d found new life in the internet age, has officially joined Spotify<\/strong>\u2018s elite \u201cBillions Club,\u201d according to a June 2 announcement. The infectious synth-pop track from his 1987 debut album \u201cWhenever You Need Somebody\u201d has now surpassed one billion streams on the platform.<\/p>\n

\u201cI never could have imagined back in 1987 that \u2018Never Gonna Give You Up\u2019 would still be going strong decades later,\u201d Astley, 59, said in a statement<\/a>. \u201cThanks to streaming platforms, a whole new generation has been able to discover music like mine. Reaching one billion streams is something I never dreamed of and to everyone who\u2019s ever listened, thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n
