She will be missed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\nMahaffey won the supporting comedy actress Emmy in 1992 for her work in \u2018Northern Exposure\u2019, which aired from 1990 to 1995.<\/p>\n<p>\nShe was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award nomination for 2020 indie movie \u2018French Exit\u2019. <\/p>\n<p>\nShe has worked across all acting mediums, on stage on Broadway, in TV and in movies, throughout her career.<\/p>\n<p>\nMemorable TV roles included Alma Hodge, ex-wife of Kyle MacLachlan\u2019s Orson Hodge, on \u2018Desperate Housewives\u2019 from 2006 to 2007; the teacher Victoria MacElroy on \u2018Young Sheldon\u2019 from 2017 to 2020 and Lorna Harding, Christina Applegate\u2019s narcissistic mother-in-law, on Netflix\u2019s \u2018Dead to Me\u2019 from 2019 to 2022.<\/p>\n<p>\nShe also appeared in the movies \u2018Sully\u2019 in 2016, \u2018Seabiscuit\u2019 in 2003 and \u2018Jungle 2 Jungle\u2019 in 1997.<\/p>\n<p>\nShe starred on Broadway six times from 1976 to 1984, with roles in \u2018Dracula\u2019, starring Raul Julia, and \u2018Play Memory\u2019, directed by Harold Prince.<\/p>\n<p>\nHer most recent roles were in the Apple TV+ series \u2018Echo 3\u2019 in 2022 and film \u2018The 8th Day\u2019, released in March.<\/p>\n<p>\nMahaffey was born in Indonesia and live there until she was 11. <\/p>\n<p>\nAfter moving to the US, she attended Austin High School and, in 1975, graduated from the University of Texas.<\/p>\n<p>\nValerie is survived by her husband Joseph and their daughter Alice.<\/p>\n<p><!-- Pagination --><\/p>\n<p><!-- playbuzz --><br \/>\n<!-- end playbuzz--><\/p>\n<p><!-- \n\n<div data-cn-project=\"femalefirst\">\n    \n<\/div>\n\n --><\/p>\n<p><!-- Outbrain { date: 2018\/06\/08 } --><br \/>\n<!-- Outbrain { date: 2018\/06\/08 } --><\/p>\n<p>    <!-- Outbrain { date: 2018\/06\/08 } --><br \/>\n    <!-- Outbrain { date: 2018\/06\/08 } --><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><br \/>\n<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.femalefirst.co.uk\/celebrity\/valerie-mahaffey-dead-71-1419692.html?f=rss\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Source link <\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>31 May 2025 Valerie Mahaffey has died at the age of 71.
