Roseanne Barr<\/strong><\/a> accused ABC of spying on her and giving the funniest lines on her sitcom Roseanne<\/em> to costar John Goodman<\/strong><\/a> prior to her firing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey spied. They monitored everything I did. They wanted to censor me from the very beginning,\u201d Barr, 72, told the Daily Mail<\/em><\/a> in an interview published on Friday, May 30.<\/p>\n

Barr was fired<\/a> from ABC\u2019s revival of her classic sitcom Roseanne<\/em> in 2018 due to backlash over a racist tweet. Barr wrote that former White House aide Valerie Jarrett<\/strong> resembled a combination of the \u201cMuslim Brotherhood + Planet of the Apes<\/em>.\u201d The comedian publicly apologized \u201cfor making a bad joke about [Jarrett\u2019s] politics and her looks\u201d at the time.<\/p>\n

ABC subsequently revamped the Roseanne<\/em> revival into The Conners<\/em>, which killed off<\/a> the Roseanne Conners character and subsequently ran for seven seasons before its April finale<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In her latest interview, Barr insisted her critics \u201chijacked that tweet and made out [that] it said something that it didn\u2019t.\u201d Barr described a tense atmosphere on set before her firing where the Roseanne<\/em> creative team allegedly toned down her conservative humor in favor of giving Goodman more jokes.<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tDespite Roseanne Barr\u2018s absence from The Conners, her character was still front and center on the final season.\u00a0 Roseanne originally aired on ABC from 1988 to 1997. After being briefly revived in 2018 \u2014 and after Barr\u2019s eventual exit from the series amid controversial social media posts \u2014 the story transformed into The Conners. The [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\u201c[The writers] were aghast. They said people are not gonna go for [conservative humor]. I go, \u2018Working class people are like this \u2013 they are not like your wife. They don\u2019t have servants,\u2019\u201d Barr insisted. \u201cIt\u2019s all just elitists from Harvard. They did think the audience was deplorable, [whether] Democrat or Republican, at that time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Barr claimed she was simply biding her time in the early days of the Roseanne<\/em> reboot so she could eventually make sweeping creative changes to the show.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought to myself, when this show goes to number one, here are the people I will fire. So I named everybody,\u201d she claimed. \u201cRight after that, everyone who was on the bad boy and girl Santa list, they were fired as a motherf*****.\u201d<\/p>\n

Us Weekly<\/em> has reached out to ABC for a response.<\/p>\n

April\u2019s series finale of The Conners<\/em> featured flashback footage of many iconic Roseanne<\/em> characters, though Barr was left out<\/a>. Executive producers Bruce Helford<\/strong>, Dave Caplan<\/strong> and Bruce Rasmussen<\/strong> later confirmed to Deadline<\/em> that Barr\u2019s absence was \u201ccontractual.\u201d<\/p>\n

Helford did credit Barr with allowing The Conners<\/em> to move forward at ABC after she was let go by the network.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen she realized it would be putting 300 people out of work when the initial reboot was canceled, she gracefully allowed us to continue without her,\u201d the producer said. \u201cIt really was about these people. This show was really about the lives of these other people in the family, the Conners, and we wanted to focus on them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Long before ABC chose to cancel the reboot of Roseanne in 2018, the actress made headlines for a variety of reasons including a controversial National Anthem performance and a run for president. Years after Barr\u2019s Roseanne character was killed off The Conners, Us Weekly learned exclusive details about [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Barr\u2019 son Jake Pentland<\/strong> told Us<\/em> that his mother had not even been aware<\/a> that The Conners<\/em> was ending in April.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t care about cheap knockoffs. We support the real brands,\u201d Pentland told Us<\/em> in April. \u201cWe only pay attention to things that matter to the American people.\u201d<\/p>\n
