As America\u2019s Got Talent<\/em><\/a> kicks off its 20th season, fans still remember former contestant Archie Williams<\/strong>. Life & Style<\/em> reflects on the wrongfully convicted prisoner-turned-singer\u2019s journey on the show and shares an update on where he is now.\n<\/p>\n \u201cI was just incarcerated for 37 years for somebody else\u2019s crime,\u201d he told the judges during his AGT<\/em><\/a> audition in 2020. \u201cDNA freed me.\u201d<\/p>\n Archie went on to reveal how singing got him through hard times while incarcerated at the Louisiana State Penitentiary after being sentenced to 80 years to life in prison for a rape and assault he didn\u2019t commit.<\/p>\n \u201cWhen you\u2019re faced with dark times, what I\u2019d do was I would pray and sing,\u201d he said. \u201cThis is how I got peace.\u201d<\/p>\n Archie initially appeared on AGT<\/em> season 15 in 2020. He made an unforgettable debut with a cover of Elton John<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cDon\u2019t Let the Sun Go Down on Me,\u201d moving all four judges to tears and earning a standing ovation from the studio audience.<\/p>\n Judge Simon Cowell<\/strong> told the talented artist, \u201cThis is an audition I will never forget for the whole of my life, Archie.\u201d<\/p>\n All four judges voted to advance Archie, who went on to wow viewers with such songs as The Beatles\u2019 \u201cBlackbird\u201d and Stevie Wonder<\/strong>\u2019s \u201cLove\u2019s in Need of Love Today.\u201d<\/p>\n Archie made it all the way to the top 10 but failed to make it to the top of the finalists. The season was won by spoken word poet Brandon Leake<\/strong>.
