Speaking to Entertainment Weekly last Friday, she admitted that she and her children are openly acknowledging the following with each other:<\/p>\n
Anna will very likely die from this illness.<\/p>\n
In the somewhat near future, too.<\/p>\n\u201cAs her mom, I\u2019ve had to have those talks that you don\u2019t want to have with your child,\u201d Shannon told this outlet. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve had those talks as a family, too. <\/p>\n
\u201cBut we all know what the end-game is and we all are prepared for that. <\/p>\n
\u201cI mean, you\u2019re never prepared<\/em> for that, but we know what could happen, and her children know that, which is sad because she has a 10- and a seven-year-old.\u201d<\/p>\nJune Shannon has had a difficult couple of years. According to the American Cancer Society, the five-year survival rate for a person diagnosed with adrenal carcinoma at the stage Anna has it is 38 percent. <\/p>\n
Per UCLA Health, if the tumor cannot be surgically removed, \u201cthe prognosis for adrenal cancers that have spread to nearby or distant organs is much less favorable, with only 10-20 percent surviving five years.\u201d<\/p>\n
From what we can gather, Anna underwent her first round of chemotherapy early this spring.<\/p>\nOn her boyfriend\u2019s page, Anna \u201cChickadee\u201d Cardwell appears while wearing a hat and smiling. (Photo Credit: Instagram)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\u201cWe don\u2019t know what the life expectancy is,\u201d June said in an interview with Page Six on Friday. <\/p>\n
\u201cHer cancer is very rare. Only one in 1 million people get it. There [are] only a few doctors that treat it. <\/p>\n
\u201cAnd the couple of doctors here in the United States that treat it, I feel like \u2014 I\u2019m not trying to be mean \u2014 are experimental doctors.\u201d<\/p>\n
Shannon then gave an update on how things look moving forward for Anna.<\/p>\n\u201cShe has had two rounds of chemo and she has her third round next week,\u201d Mama June explained to ET. <\/p>\n
\u201cShe has a scan on Saturday and we get results back on [May] 9th. The second round [of chemo] has been really more rough on her. She lost all of her hair\u2026she sleeps a lot this round. <\/p>\n
\u201cHer appetite is going. She doesn\u2019t want to eat some days.\u201d<\/p>\n
June told Page Six that if the scans show that the chemo is not helping after four rounds, \u201cwe go back to the drawing board, and we don\u2019t know what the next step is.\u201d<\/p>\nIn the wake of this devastating news, well-known family members of Cardwell spoke out about two months ago.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is what I mean when I say you never truly know what somebody is going through at home. No matter how famous they are,\u201d wrote Alana Thompson on her Instagram Story, for example.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, I\u2019m very famous, but normal sh-t happens to me and my family & y\u2019all need to realize that ASAP.\u201d<\/p>\n
