By default, it\u2019s powered by Anthropic\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/05\/22\/anthropics-new-claude-4-ai-models-can-reason-over-many-steps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Claude Sonnet 4 <\/a>model.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cVoice mode \u2026 enables you to speak to Claude and hear responses through voice, making it easier to use Claude when your hands are busy but your mind isn\u2019t,\u201d reads a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/support.anthropic.com\/en\/articles\/11101966-using-voice-mode-on-claude-mobile-apps?s=09\" target=\"_blank\">support page<\/a>. \u201cVoice mode transforms how you interact with Claude by \u2026 displaying key points on-screen as Claude speaks [and] allowing you to speak to Claude and hear Claude\u2019s voice responses.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">We&#8217;re rolling out voice mode in beta on mobile.<\/p>\n<p>Try starting a voice conversation and asking Claude to summarize your calendar or search your docs. <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/xVo5VHiCEb\" target=\"_blank\">pic.twitter.com\/xVo5VHiCEb<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Anthropic (@AnthropicAI) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AnthropicAI\/status\/1927463559836877214?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\">May 27, 2025<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A number of AI companies, including OpenAI, offer voice chat experiences for their respective chatbots. Google, for example, has <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/snippet\/3009762\/people-are-chatting-with-gemini-live-a-lot\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gemini Live<\/a>, while xAI has Voice Mode for Grok. Each lets users interact with bots by speaking instead of typing, making conversations feel more natural and intuitive. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With Anthropic\u2019s flavor of voice mode, users can chat about things like documents and images, and choose from five distinct voice options. Users can also switch between text and voice on the fly, and see a transcript and summary following conversations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The capability has certain limits. Voice conversations count toward regular usage caps \u2014 Anthropic says that 20-30 conversations is what most free users can expect. Moreover, only paid Claude subscribers can take advantage of a Google Workspace connector that allows voice mode to access Google Calendar appointments and Gmail emails (Google Docs integration is exclusive to Claude Enterprise plans).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Anthropic CPO Mike Krieger <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/03\/18\/anthropic-is-reportedly-prepping-a-voice-mode-for-claude\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">confirmed<\/a> the company was working on voice capabilities for Claude in an interview with the Financial Times in early March.
