Bindi Irwin<\/a> has found living with endometriosis to be “crippling”.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old star has taken to social media to share a health update, after recently undergoing emergency surgery.<\/p>\n

Alongside a carousel of photos – including one from her hospital bed – Bindi wrote on Instagram: “Healing. Thank you for your incredible words of support and kindness. The reason I share my health journey is because more girls and women desperately need answers to their undiagnosed pain. I\u2019ve battled with endometriosis for more than 12 years. This disease is crippling and can make you feel incredibly isolated. We need to raise awareness and change the narrative for women\u2019s health. I see you, your pain is real, and you deserve answers and genuine health care. For more information visit @endofound. (sic)”<\/p>\n

Endometriosis causes tissue similar to the lining of the uterus to grow outside the uterus.<\/p>\n

Bindi recently missed her late dad Steve Irwin<\/a>\u2019s annual gala in Las Vegas after rupturing her appendix.<\/p>\n

\nRobert Irwin, her brother, subsequently explained the reason for her absence.<\/p>\n

\nHe told People: “She\u2019s going to be OK, but surgery – out of all the things we were ready for, that was not one of them. She\u2019s just come out the other side of endometriosis and now the appendix goes. Health is so important – it really is.”<\/p>\n

\nBindi was initially determined to attend the event, but her surgeon advised against it.<\/p>\n

\nRobert explained: “[Bindi] was ready to come to the gala, put on a brave face in a lot of discomfort and a lot of pain and said, \u2018Nope, I\u2019m just going to tough it out, I\u2019m going to go for it.’<\/p>\n

\n“But the surgeon said, \u2018No, your appendix is going. That thing\u2019s gotta come out.\u2019 Health has to come first. <\/p>\n

\n“She\u2019s very sad. She\u2019s devastated that she and mom can\u2019t be here, but I know she\u2019ll make a speedy recovery.”<\/p>\n

\nBindi actually took to Instagram after undergoing surgery.<\/p>\n

\nThe TV star said at the time: “I had my appendix removed. I also had 14 new endometriosis lesions [that] had to be removed, and they kindly stitched up my hernia as well.<\/p>\n

\n“I\u2019m sorry if I\u2019m a little out of it in this video, but I just wanted you to know that I\u2019m on the road to recovery, one step at a time. And I\u2019m so lucky to have so much love in my life.”<\/p>\n
