Gronkowski and Hernandez were both tight ends on the New England Patriots from 2010 to 2012.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cI love crazy s***, though,\u201d Gronkowski added, \u201cI didn\u2019t mind things like that. I was like, \u2018Wow, that was pretty epic.\u2019 I was a wild man myself. Nothing fazed me.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\nIn April 2015, Hernandez was found guilty of murder in the first degree in the 2013 killing of his friend Odin Lloyd<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nTwo years later, Hernandez died by suicide in his prison cell at the Souza-Baranowski Correctional Center in Lancaster, Massachusetts. He was 27 years old.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cI didn\u2019t see it going to the level that it went to,\u201d Gronkowski said of Hernandez\u2019s troubles. \u201cI didn\u2019t see that happening. That was a surprise. It was a surprise to everyone because you would never expect anyone, especially in that position, to have it go to the level that it went to.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\nGronkowski continued, \u201cI didn\u2019t know it was that bad. I knew that there was definitely some wild sides to him.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\nHernandez\u2019s story was the subject of a 2020 Netflix documentary, Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez<\/i>, and FX\u2019s dramatized series American Sports Story<\/i><\/a> in September 2024.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\nGronkowski argued that the media representations of Hernandez were a mixed bag.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\u201cWith everything coming out, there\u2019s some that I would say is true in the documentaries that come out,\u201d he explained. \u201cThere\u2019s some that\u2019s probably exaggerated a little bit. But there\u2019s some that\u2019s not exaggerated at all, either.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
