Justin Bieber<\/a>, 31, in August 2024 and said the newborn was \u201cwhisked away\u201d after delivery while medical staff worked to stop excessive bleeding.<\/p>\nDescribing the ordeal as \u201ca little bit scary\u201d, Hailey told Vogue: \u201cI trust my doctor with my life. And so I had peace that I knew she would never let anything happen to me. <\/p>\n
\u201cBut I was bleeding really badly, and people die, and the thought crosses your mind.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hailey, the founder of skincare brand Rhode, added about the scare: \u201cYou start to get a little freaked out\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nAccording to the National Institutes of Health, postpartum haemorrhage \u2013 defined as excessive blood loss after childbirth \u2013 poses a significant risk to maternal health. <\/p>\n
\nHailey said despite months of preparation, her labour and delivery were far from easy. <\/p>\n
\nShe had practised breathing techniques, acupuncture, yoga, pelvic-floor therapy, workouts, walking and weight training in anticipation of the birth. <\/p>\n
\nBut after her amniotic fluid began leaking at 39 weeks, she was medically induced.<\/p>\n
\nDoctors administered Pitocin, a drug commonly used to stimulate contractions, and inserted a Foley balloon to help dilate her cervix.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cThat s*** was so crazy,\u201d Hailey said \u2013\u00a0adding: \u201cThat was not fun. They broke my water. I went into labour and I laboured for a few hours\u201d without using an epidural\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nHailey also spoke candidly about her postpartum mental health, disclosing that she struggled with body dysmorphia and feelings of \u201cself-hatred\u201d. <\/p>\n
\nShe said she often searched for negative online comments, feeling depressed when she found them and angry at herself for looking. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cEvery day I have to talk to myself, like, Hailey, you had a baby,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\nThe model added: \u201cYou grew a human. You birthed a human. It\u2019s okay. Give yourself grace. Give yourself time.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nEarlier this month, Hailey said she had been suffering from ovarian cysts, which have made her feel \u201cnauseous\u201d and \u201cemotional\u201d.<\/p>\n
\nHailey and Justin, who married in 2018, have recently faced speculation about their relationship amid scrutiny of the singer\u2019s public behaviour, but the couple have continued to present a united front.<\/p>\n
