My 600-Lb. Life<\/em> has changed the lives of many of its most memorable stars throughout its tenure \u2014 and the long-running series shows no signs of slowing down.<\/p>\n

The reality show premiered on TLC in February 2012, documenting the journeys of obese patients as they attempt to lose weight <\/a>via significant lifestyle change and surgical intervention. Bariatric surgeon Dr. Younan Nowzaradan<\/strong> (a.k.a. Dr. Now)\u00a0oversees the process, which often involves developing new eating patterns and undergoing an approved gastric bypass procedure if and when certain criteria are met.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt just happened,\u201d Nowzaradan told Houstonia<\/em> magazine<\/a> in October 2017 of how the series came to be. \u201cI was operating on a lot of 600-pound people.\u201d<\/p>\n

The surgeon hoped that the show would be helpful not only to his patients but also to viewers<\/a> and his colleagues.<\/p>\n
