Former Siri head John Giannandrea pushed Apple to choose Google\u2019s Gemini chatbot over ChatGPT for the first chatbot integration with Siri last year, according to a Bloomberg<\/a> report looking at Apple\u2019s uneven AI efforts.<\/p>\n Giannandrea, an ex-Google executive who was demoted in a leadership reshuffle in March<\/a>, thought that OpenAI\u2019s bot wouldn\u2019t have staying power and wasn\u2019t protective of sensitive personal data. Despite these concerns, Apple announced ChatGPT\u2019s integration at WWDC in 2025<\/a> and made the feature available to users in December<\/a>. <\/p>\n Apple\u2019s integration lets users tap ChatGPT in instances where Siri isn\u2019t able to answer a question. Last year, Apple announced that it would connect additional chatbots, including Google\u2019s Gemini<\/a>, to Siri. <\/p>\n Apple is also in preliminary talks with AI-powered search engine Perplexity to offer Perplexity as a ChatGPT alternative in Siri and a search provider in the company\u2019s Safari browser, according to Bloomberg.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
