The Handmaid\u2019s Tale<\/em><\/a> is coming to an end after six seasons \u2014 and the series finale won\u2019t sugarcoat the story.<\/p>\n

During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly<\/em>, coshowrunners Yahlin Chang<\/strong> and Eric Tuchman<\/strong> teased the final two episodes<\/a> of the show.<\/p>\n

\u201cI think we can expect an honest conclusion to the story. We keep using the word honest because we try our best to be realistic,\u201d Tuchman noted. \u201cWhat would happen in real life \u2014 and what we hope people take away \u2014 is this feeling of hopefulness and resilience that June and many of the other characters have demonstrated and will demonstrate in the last couple of episodes.\u201d<\/p>\n

With June (Elisabeth Moss<\/strong>) finally leading the resistance, viewers should expect genuine twists and turns<\/a>, with Tuchman adding, \u201cWhen you\u2019re up against an oppressive regime and when your rights are stripped away, you just never stop fighting. You keep going. Hopefully people will draw some optimism and feel empowered by what plays out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Based on Margaret Atwood\u2019s novel of the same name, The Handmaid\u2019s Tale takes place in a dystopian future where low fertility rates have led women to be assigned to men for bearing children. Chang, meanwhile, specifically praised the ninth episode<\/a> of the season.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is really the most epic episode of the entire series. It\u2019s incredibly satisfying because we\u2019ve teased even in the marketing that the revolution is here,\u201d she explained. \u201cYou really get that in episode 9 and it comes to the forefront. It is so emotional and amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n

After wrapping the series, Chang told Us<\/em> she found herself rewatching that specific episode as a way to \u201cpump myself up.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201d It is really like a tour de force. We wanted audience members to be jumping out of their seats and so excited, so happy and to feel so good,\u201d she added. \u201cIt\u2019s amazing. Our fans are amazing that they have stuck with us through a lot of bad moments. So they, more than anyone, deserve some feel good moments. That really gets delivered in episode 9.\u201d<\/p>\n

Based on Margaret Atwood<\/strong>\u2019s novel of the same name, The Handmaid\u2019s Tale<\/em> takes place in a dystopian future where low fertility rates have resulted in women being forcefully assigned to men for the sole purpose of bearing children. In addition to Moss, Samira Wiley, Yvonne Strahovski, Madeline Brewer, Ann Dowd, O-T Fagbenle, Max Minghella<\/strong> and Amanda Brugel<\/strong> have led the cast since<\/a> the show\u2019s premiere.<\/p>\n

Executive producer Warren Littlefield<\/strong> also called the show\u2019s finale \u201creally satisfying,\u201d sharing with Us<\/em> in April, \u201cLiving in the world of Gilead for our audience is sometimes a tough journey. But I think their patience will be rewarded because this final year is ordinary women doing extraordinary things. The revolution is here and they\u2019re highly effective. There\u2019s joy. Is there still a Gilead? Yeah. But we celebrate what they accomplish and I think it\u2019ll be very satisfying for the audience.\u201d<\/p>\n
