Ronnie Wood feels great<\/p>\n
The 77-year-old musician has been “clean and serene” for 15 years, having gone through “about 10” rehab clinics and realised he needed to kick his drug and alcohol habits for his own sake.<\/p>\n
Ronnie – who also stopped smoking nine years ago – told the Daily Telegraph newspaper: \u201cIt was that little voice inside me. I was bleeding out of every orifice. And I thought, f****** hell, somebody\u2019s trying to tell me something, you know what I mean?<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd I had the wherewithal to listen to that voice, and say I\u2019m going to get off the bus now, and doing it for myself. That\u2019s what it was…<\/p>\n
“I feel the best I\u2019ve ever felt [now].”<\/p>\n
\nBut going back on tour with the Rolling Stones sober was a “white-knuckle ride”, though Ronnie is grateful for his bandmates for being “really supportive” of his recovery.<\/p>\n
\nHe said of his previous drink and drug habits: \u201cBefore going on [stage]. And during, and after. That\u2019s what it was for all those years. And then suddenly having to learn to fly.”<\/p>\n
\nHe added: \u201cThe boys were really supportive. Mick was really supportive of me. We did some small shows, and I\u2019d be there thinking, oh, God, we\u2019ve got to go on, and he\u2019d come up to me, \u2018You\u2019ll be all right, Ronnie.\u2019 It helped me get through.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nAnd Ronnie admitted it is a “wonderful feeling” to have the support of “perfect strangers” thanks to “the fellowship” he has found at Narcotics Anonymous (NA) and Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meetings.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cThe gathering of all those people, that street support, and that down-to-earth reliability and faith through people, the unity\u2026<\/p>\n
\n\u201cIt\u2019s a wonderful feeling to be able to rely on perfect strangers, from all walks of life. Suddenly we\u2019re all in the same lifeboat together, stranded at sea, and you pull together and come out the other end, if you\u2019re lucky. And that\u2019s what happened to me.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nRonnie’s faith comes in the form of a “higher power” with his art, which always inspires him to “raise the bar”.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: “I\u2019m always looking to improve my attitude, and improve my character, and never lose ambition, you know? That\u2019s where that faith and hope comes in.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cAnd I think my higher power is my painting, which I can get lost in, and get inspired by, and music. Without music I would be totally lost. And to be part of a group of people whose higher power is that music, and to be on that plane together \u2013 the unspoken plane, you go there and you\u2019re lifted and you\u2019re speaking through the music. So with those two things, I\u2019m blessed.\u201d<\/p>\n
