The Foo Fighters have fired their drummer Josh Freese<\/a>,<\/strong> leaving the musician \u201cshocked and disappointed.\u201d<\/p>\n

The musician, 52, shared the news of his axing from the band via a candid post shared via his Instagram<\/a> on Friday, May 16.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Foo Fighters<\/a> called me Monday night to let me know they\u2019ve decided \u2018to go in another direction with their drummer.\u2019 No reason was given. :(\u201c Freese wrote.<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cRegardless I enjoyed the past two years with them, both on and off stage, and I support whatever they feel is best for the band.\u201d<\/p>\n

As he reflected on the turn of events, Freese added that he was disappointed in the decision, and said that it was unexpected.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn my 40 years of drumming professionally, I\u2019ve never been let go from a band, so while I\u2019m not angry \u2013 just a bit shocked and disappointed,\u201d he wrote. \u201cBut as most of you know, I\u2019ve always worked freelance and bounced between bands so I\u2019m fined.\u201d<\/p>\n

He then joked, \u201cStay tuned for my \u2018Top 10 possible reasons Josh got booted from the Foo Fighters list.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Former Foo Fighters drummer William Goldsmith,<\/strong> 52, was among the people reacting in the comments section and appeared to be just as shocked as Fresee.<\/p>\n

\u201cSay what?\u201d he wrote. \u201cWhy? For playing everything not only perfectly but going above and beyond what most are remotely capable of?<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cI apologise but respectfully this makes absolutely no sense to me.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fans also shared their disappointment at the news, with one writing: \u201cA strange act on their part. We wish you to soon find yourself in a band which you decide that this is even better for you!
