Billie Piper is taking on more writing work<\/p>\n
The 42-year-old actress started out as a pop star before transitioning to TV and film and now she’s revealed she’s hoping to take on more work behind the camera after making her directorial debut with 2019 film ‘Rare Beasts’, which she also wrote and starred in.<\/p>\n
Speaking to the Guardian newspaper, she explained: “If I watch 1990s romcoms now, I find them hard to understand. They just sit differently.<\/p>\n
“Even though I love those movies, it\u2019s a time that felt so radically different from the world we live in now. So I\u2019m trying to do something that feels authentic to now, but still feels dreamy and hopeful.”<\/p>\n
When asked how she deals with writer’s block, she replied: “I panic! Luckily, I\u2019m so green even the bad days seem achievable.”<\/p>\n
\nBillie went on to add: “I don\u2019t just want to be an actor for hire any more. It feels too frightening. But then, you know, what am I going into? <\/p>\n
\n“Writing things that also may never get made? People want to make massive things for loads of money, and then the expectation is that those numbers reflect that spend, and if they don\u2019t then they\u2019re gone. It\u2019s really sad.”<\/p>\n
\nIt comes after Billie admitted she struggles to find a work-life balance when juggling her acting career with raising her three children – Winston, 15 and 11-year-old Eugene with ex-husband Laurence Fox and five-year-old daughter Tallullah with former partner Johnny Lloyd.<\/p>\n
\nShe told Independent.co.uk: “Working mothers\u2019 stuff is really complex.” <\/p>\n
\nAsked if she has a work-life balance, she added: \u201cNo. I don\u2019t. I feel like we\u2019ve been told we should have that. But there\u2019s absolutely no way I have that? <\/p>\n
\n“And that\u2019s one of the tiring things about being an actor for hire \u2013 if you\u2019re working in a lead role, you\u2019re out of the house sometimes 15 hours a day. <\/p>\n
\n“I really struggle with that now I\u2019ve got three kids.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nBillie explained it can be particularly difficult as she may have an intense three-month period of filming and then no work for the rest of the year. <\/p>\n
\nShe noted: “But when you\u2019re gone, you\u2019re gone. Those extremes make for something quite rocky.\u201d<\/p>\n
