Katie Thurston is now in a ‘medically induced menopause’ amid her cancer battle.<\/p>\n
\nThe 34-year-old reality star announced in February she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, and the following month, she revealed it had been categorised as stage 4 after spots were also found on her liver, but now she is struggling to even sleep or drink water after being forced forced to lose her reproductive functions. <\/p>\n
\nShe wrote on Instagram: “I slept like s*** because I’m now in medically induced menopause, which means I get hot flashes. My medicine makes me so dehydrated. My lips have been chapped for what feels like two weeks straight.<\/p>\n
\n“It’s this game of catch up and trying to make sure I get enough water, which I was already bad at before medication.<\/p>\n
\n“Now, it’s like a true task every day to force myself to consume water!”<\/p>\n
\nDespite her health woes, the ‘Bachelorette’ star recently insisted that she is she still trying to be “optimistic”. <\/p>\n
\nReflecting on the “moments” of thinking she’s dying, she said on ‘Uncomfortable Convos’: \u201cI think that comes from reading from other people\u2019s experiences. Just like others, there\u2019s just a lot of unknown. People just aren\u2019t experienced with cancer. \u201cYou usually hear stage 4, you hear that it\u2019s spread to the liver, and I think automatically people think you have a short time to live. “That might be very much true [for some people]. For me, I\u2019m trying to be very optimistic and feel that\u2019s not the case for me. Not once has my doctor made it sound like that\u2019s the case for me. \u201cThe medication and the route that we\u2019re going has been very positive for people.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nKatie – who married Jeff Arcuri shortly after her diagnosis – admitted she experienced “the worst feeling” ever when she was told she had cancer.<\/p>\n
\n She said: \u201cI will say, I cried in a way that I\u2019ve never heard myself cry. It was just devastated. “Beyond anything I\u2019ve ever felt before. Probably the worst feeling of my life, if I\u2019m being honest.\u201d The 34-year-old reality star is still “processing” her diagnosis and how much her life has changed over the last few years. <\/p>\n
\nAsked if she is grieving “the life you dreamt of living” following her diagnosis, she said: \u201cI don\u2019t know. I\u2019m still processing, I think. \u201cIt is a weird reflection of 2020, getting on reality TV and working at a bank and how simple my life almost seemed \u2014 even though it was very chaotic. Everything I have experienced, I guess, prepared me for this moment.\u201d<\/p>\n
\n After going through \u201ca lot of hard stuff in life\u201d, cancer is \u201cjust another battle\u201d for Katie and she’s ready to face the tough times ahead. <\/p>\n
\nShe added: \u201cI f****** win battles. I fight so hard, and this will be the hardest battle of my life, for sure, but I\u2019ve never thought I wouldn\u2019t get through it. I\u2019ve never thought that I would not see the other side. So that\u2019s what I\u2019m hoping to do.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nKatie hopes she still has at least 20 years to live. <\/p>\n
\nShe said: \u201cThey measure it in five-year increments. \u201cIt\u2019s a weird thing to say but I feel like at least I got five years. Truly, I\u2019d like to think I have 20 or more, given medical advancements and stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n
