Los Angeles love! Moonshadows owner <\/span>JD Slajchert<\/a> sat down with ET to share how the California community has come together to support his family’s restaurant in Malibu, California after losing it to the wildfires in Jan. 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n The eatery, visited by <\/span>Britney Spears<\/a>, <\/span>LeAnn Rimes<\/a>, <\/span>Lupita Nyong’o<\/a>, <\/span>Kim Kardashian<\/a>, and more, was a go-to spot for famous faces and beyond.<\/span><\/p>\n “What made Moonshadows so unique was that at one table you could have some of the most notable A-list\u00a0celebrities, and at the table beside them, there could be a normal family out to celebrate a birthday. It was\u00a0an\u00a0authentic melting pot. I think that was something that both\u00a0celebrities and regular patrons alike enjoyed,” he explained.<\/span><\/p>\n And the outpouring love and support the former Division I athlete has received since is a testament to just that.<\/span><\/p>\n “Thousands of people from all over the world have reached out, often sharing their favorite photos and memories from the\u00a0restaurant. It has been so touching and\u00a0immensely helpful for my family and I as we navigate this\u00a0difficult situation to be able to tangibly feel that reminder about how impactful Moonshadows was,” he continued.<\/span><\/p>\n In addition to receiving heartfelt messages, the novelist started a GoFundMe for the restaurant staff, which raised over $100,000, and they have been able to serve some of their most popular dishes at their sister spot, The Sunset.<\/span><\/p>\n “My hope is that we will continue to stick together and remain resilient. \u2026 It will be hard, and it will take time, but\u00a0I’m\u00a0confident in our\u00a0community to bounce back. I\u00a0believe in L.A.,” he shared.<\/span><\/p>\n While the screenwriter has faced his own hardships recently, it hasn’t prevented him from helping others, including those suffering with Sickle Cell Disease after losing his friend and UCSB basketball fan, Luc Bodden, to the health condition.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n “I believe that giving back is the most important thing we do. … I credit this simple lesson in humility to my best friend, Luc. \u2026 Luc taught me that even if it’s something small, we have to always be looking out for others,\u201d the motivational speaker noted.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
