On top of her TV work, she also starred in movies like <em>The Aristocats<\/em>,<em> Freaky Friday<\/em>, and <em>The Rescuers<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Ruth played many roles on <em>Laugh-In<\/em> \u2014 including gossip columnist Busy Buzzi, prostitute Kim Hither and silent movie star Laverne Blossom \u2014 but it was her work as the purse-swinging \u201chandbag lady\u201d Gladys Ormphby for which she\u2019s best remembered.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo many people ask me to hit them with my purse,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boomermagazine.com\/gladys-ormphby\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Buzzi said <\/a>in a 2016 interviw. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn fact, a few years ago we were at a Beverly Hills party and in walked Elton John. He immediately made his way over to me and said, \u2018For God\u2019s sakes, Ruth, please hit me with your purse.
