Elsbeth<\/em> is the latest show to lose a main cast member in a shocking shakeup ahead of the season 2 finale.<\/p>\n

After the penultimate episode aired on Thursday, May 1, Carra Patterson<\/strong> confirmed she would be stepping down as a series regular. She is expected to return in a guest star capacity after playing fan-favorite character Kaya<\/a> since the show premiered.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy character, Kaya Blanke, is embarking on a new adventure as the story continues to unfold, and I am excited to do the same,\u201d Patterson, 41, said in a statement to Deadline<\/em>. \u201cBut we will see Kaya again \u2014 fans will find out what she\u2019s been up to in her new role as Detective next season when I come back to guest star and play with Carrie and Wendell.\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cI am beyond grateful to the cast, crew, and producers, and of course, the fans, for all the love and support.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tAll good things must come to an end, even when it comes to TV. Over the years, many television stars have suddenly left their roles \u2014 while others have been cut from a series without much notice. Anna Faris announced in September 2020 that she was leaving CBS\u2019 Mom after starring as the lead character [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

During Thursday\u2019s episode, Captain Wagner (Wendell Pierce<\/strong>) told Carra she was being offered a job outside of the NYPD. \u201cYou are joining a special task force in D.C,\u201d he revealed. \u201cA spot just opened up. Training starts right away. It will require extensive training in D.C. and undercover assignments.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Deadline<\/em><\/a>, Kaya will make an appearance in the season 2 finale, where fans will see the conclusion of her work as an officer at the NYPD. It is unclear what season 3 will look like<\/a> without Carrie Preston<\/strong>\u2018s character, Elsbeth, working on cases with Kaya by her side.<\/p>\n

Executive producer Jonathan Tolins<\/strong> addressed the surprising news as well, saying, \u201cKaya just turned out to be this wonderful partner for Elsbeth, and that relationship was one that we all love so much, and we love Carra. We\u2019re excited that the character got her promotion and achieved that dream.\u201d<\/p>\n

Tolins didn\u2019t rule out Kaya\u2019s onscreen return \u2014 in a more limited capacity.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s not leaving the world of the show,\u201d he added. \u201cShe\u2019s just not going to be with us every day. I don\u2019t want to make too much of the change.\u201d<\/p>\n
