It takes place in a grocery store, where anthropomorphic food items dream of going to \u201cThe Great Beyond\u201d with the human \u201cgods\u201d who shop there. When Frank (Rogen) hears rumors about the horrific fate of food, he begins a quest through the grocery store aisles to discover the truth.<\/p>\n<p>Despite its grocery store setting, wacky premise and insanely raunchy content (there is an all-food orgy in this movie. Again, <em>not<\/em> family friendly), <em>Sausage Party<\/em> is at its heart a smart and scathing critique of organized religion. It has an all-star cast of comedy icons including <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/kristen-wiig\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kristen Wiig<\/a>, Jonah Hill, Bill Hader, Michael Cera, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/james-franco\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James Franco<\/a>, Danny McBride<\/strong> and more. It also spawned a spinoff series, <em>Sausage Party: Foodtopia<\/em>, on Amazon Prime. Director <strong>Peter Sohn<\/strong> said that instead of Pixar classics like <em>Toy Story<\/em>, his main <a href=\"https:\/\/www.indiewire.com\/features\/animation\/elemental-pixar-peter-sohn-animation-1234823732\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">influences while creating <em>Elemental<\/em><\/a> were movies like <em>Guess Who\u2019s Coming to Dinner<\/em> (1967), <em>You\u2019ve Got Mail<\/em> (1998), <em>My Big Fat Greek Wedding<\/em> (2002) and <em>The Big Sick<\/em> (2017). Though it\u2019s certainly not as dark as the <strong>Victor Hugo<\/strong> novel that serves as its source material, <em>The Hunchback of Notre Dame<\/em> explores the same themes of religion, prejudice, lust and honor. Much of the movie\u2019s plot is driven by the villainous Judge Claude Frollo (<strong>Tony Jay<\/strong>) and the way his hatred of \u201cGypsies\u201d (the Romani people inhabiting Paris in the 1480s setting) interacts with his lust for Romani street performer Esmeralda (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/demi-moore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Demi Moore<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, Frollo\u2019s ward is the gentle and kind Quasimodo (<strong>Tom Hulce<\/strong>), the titular hunchback who longs to see the outside world after years of confinement in Notre Dame\u2019s bell tower. The opening song in the Disney musical asks the viewer, \u201cWhat makes a monster and what makes a man?\u201d and the movie lives up to its lofty themes. It\u2019s a sci-fi adventure about an enormous robot (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/vin-diesel\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Vin Diesel<\/strong><\/a>) that falls from space and lands in a small Maine town during the height of Cold War panic. And these titles [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>The Iron Giant<\/em> is without a doubt one of the greatest animated films of all time, and its Cold War story has entirely new layers in an era where fear is once again dominant in American culture. <strong>Christopher McDonald<\/strong> portrays a paranoid government agent whose dogged efforts to track down and destroy the \u201cmonster\u201d have disastrous consequences. The two brothers were once the closest of friends until Moses\u2019 duty to his people called him to a greater purpose.<\/p>\n<p>Between its excellent script and stellar voice cast (<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/michelle-pfeiffer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Michelle Pfeiffer<\/a>, Sandra Bullock, Steve Martin<\/strong> and <strong>Patrick Stewart<\/strong> are among the stars lending their voices to the film), <em>The Prince of Egypt<\/em> is shockingly successful at delivering a religious story that doesn\u2019t feel preachy.
