width:calc(100% - 2px);\"\/>\n<p>In her interview, Airyn admitted that she \u2014 like many trans folks \u2014 had struggled to define her identity while growing up. <\/p>\n<p>Coming out as gay when she was younger led to run-ins with people who were \u201cruthless and mean.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She elaborated: <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI didn\u2019t even fit that beauty standard, which is thin, white, muscular, or just super fit, masculine.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\">\n<p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Robert De Niro\u2019s Daughter Has Come Out As Trans #shorts #robertdeniro #comingout\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/TBGPIScHnJU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; Too feminine, not masculine enough,\u201d she elaborated. \u201cIt was never just, \u2018You\u2019re just right, just the way you are.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In contrast, Airyn found \u2014 upon realizing that she is transgender \u2014 that she felt inspired by \u201ctrans women being honest and open, especially [in] public spaces like social media.\u201d <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-captioned=\"\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DIATUYGsX_4\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\" style=\" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:540px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);\"\/>\n<p>This understanding helped her to accept that \u201cmaybe it\u2019s not too late\u201d for <em>her <\/em>be herself, too.<\/p>\n<p>Transitioning as an adult can come with numerous difficulties, from the effects of having already gone through the wrong puberty to the potential alienation of peers and job opportunities. <\/p>\n<p>But countless trans folks have realized over the years that there\u2019s no cutoff date on being themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Airyn continued, praising \u201cthe influence Black women have had on me.
