He expected to be drafted in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and at one point was projected to be a top-5 draft pick. Unfortunately, he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/entertainment\/news\/why-shedeur-sanders-not-getting-drafted-in-round-1-was-such-a-big-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fell to the fifth round<\/a> of the draft when he was picked up by the Cleveland Browns.<\/p>\n<p>Part of what made Shedeur\u2019s draft experience so unusual was a prank phone call he received from <strong>Jax Ulbrich<\/strong>, son of Atlanta Falcons\u2019 coach <strong>Jeff Ulbrich<\/strong>. Jax, 21, posed as an executive from another team and told Shedeur he would need to wait a little longer to be drafted before hanging up.<\/p>\n<p>The disorienting moment was captured and shared online by several outlets, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2025\/04\/27\/sport\/video\/shedeur-sanders-nfl-draft-prank-call-coy-wire-digvid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">including CNN<\/a>. In the end, it was revealed to be prank. Since then, fans are wondering who made the call and why. He was born in Georgia, where he spent most of his life until the family moved to New Jersey.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tapinto.net\/towns\/chatham\/sections\/sports\/articles\/jets-coach-ulbrich-shows-interest-in-chatham-football-players-his-two-sons-who-are-playing-football-for-the-first-time\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">TAPinto Chatham<\/a>, Jax and his brother both played football for the first time after they made the move to the Garden State, despite the fact that their dad played in the NFL for 10 years. At the time, Jason Ulbrich explained, \u201cBlame their mom. I think she\u2019d been through so much with me with injuries and hospital visits, that she wanted to protect them. They\u2019ve played basketball and wrestled. They\u2019ve done a little bit of everything, they just haven\u2019t played football.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jax is currently a student at Berry College in Georgia, where he <a href=\"https:\/\/berryvikings.com\/sports\/football\/roster\/jax-ulbrich\/8719\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plays on the school\u2019s football team<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>How did Jax pull off the prank?<\/h3>\n<p>On Friday, April 25, Jax called potential NFL draftee Shedeur and pretended to be <strong>Mickey Loomies<\/strong>, the general manager of the New Orleans Saints. Shedeur, who at one time was predicted to be a first round or even top 5 NFL pick, was waiting to be selected on the draft\u2019s second day.<\/p>\n<p>Jax found a phone number for Shedeur in his father\u2019s iPad and wrote the number down.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s been a long wait, man,\u201d Jax said during the call. \u201cWe\u2019re going to take you with our next pick right here, man. But you\u2019re going to have to wait a little bit longer, man. Sorry about that.\u201d Sanders then hung up on and asked, \u201cWhat does that mean?\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>What did the Atlanta Falcons say about the incident?<\/h3>\n<p>The Falcons sharply condemned the prank call, and the NFL launched an investigation into what happened. \u201cEarlier in the week, Jax Ulbrich, the 21-year-old son of defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, unintentionally came across the draft contact phone number for Shedeur Sanders off an open iPad while visiting his parents\u2019 home and wrote the number down to later conduct a prank call,\u201d the Falcons said in a statement <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/news\/son-of-falcons-dc-jeff-ulbrich-apologizes-for-prank-calling-shedeur-sanders-during-nfl-draft\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">shared by the NFL<\/a>. \u201cJeff Ulbrich was unaware of the data exposure or any facets of the prank and was made aware of the above only after the fact.
