\t\t<\/p>\n Ryan Reynolds<\/strong><\/a> is getting vulnerable about his father\u2019s battle with Parkinson\u2019s disease. <\/p>\n The 48-year-old actor attended the Acadia Pharmaceuticals\u2019 panel for Parkinson\u2019s Awareness Month in New York City on Friday (April 25). There, he opened up about witnessing his father James Chester<\/strong> experience the neurological disorder for two decades until his death in 2015. <\/p>\n \u201cA man with four children, working class, dealing with a disease that is degenerative and something that will one day render him physically unable to take care of himself or others, that is going to have a profound effect on the psyche. That\u2019s not easy. He was one of the many Parkinson\u2019s patients experiencing these hallucinations and delusions, and it\u2019s remarkable how you can layer cake a stigma,\u201d Ryan<\/strong> told People<\/a><\/em>. <\/p>\n Keep reading to find out more\u2026<\/em><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n He continued, \u201cHe was a proud man, probably said the word Parkinson\u2019s twice in his whole life. So he certainly wasn\u2019t going to talk about some of the psychological effects it was having on him. And if there was treatment for that, if there was something available back then, I think his whole life would\u2019ve improved. I think his sense of wellbeing would\u2019ve been restored. His sense of reality would\u2019ve been restored.\u201d <\/p>\n The Deadpool & Wolverine<\/em> star also reflected on how his father\u2019s condition affected those around him. <\/p>\n \u201cThere is a real kind of caregiver fatigue, and there\u2019s a kind of bag of rocks that you carry around with you where you\u2019re the one that\u2019s basically responsible for caring for this person, caring for yourself. It\u2019s very hard being the person. My mom was that person. She was the primary caregiver for my father,\u201d he explained. <\/p>\n \u201cWhen you have somebody who\u2019s very prideful like that, he\u2019s not going to accept help from anyone else. So I feel for them as much as I do the patients.
