AI coding assistant startup Windsurf cut its prices \u201cacross the board\u201d it announced on Monday<\/a>, touting \u201cmassive savings\u201d for its users as competition with its rival Cursor intensifies.<\/p>\n Windsurf said it\u2019s getting rid of its complex system of \u201cflow action credits,\u201d which charged developers for actions its AI did in the background. It\u2019s also cutting prices for its team plans to $30 per user per month down from $35, while making its enterprise plans \u201cmuch cheaper,\u201d per the announcement.<\/p>\n Windsurf product marketer Rob Hou proclaimed on X<\/a> that Windsurf now has \u201cBY FAR the best and most affordable pricing structure of all AI coding tools on the market,\u201d crediting this to Windsurf optimizing its GPU usage.\u00a0<\/p>\n Hou criticized \u201cconfusing\u201d competitor plans priced at $20 a month in an apparent dig at Cursor\u2019s individual monthly plan, which starts at $20 compared to Windsurf\u2019s $15.<\/p>\n The pricing overhaul comes as Windsurf is reportedly being considered for an acquisition by OpenAI for $3 billion<\/a> (Cursor\u2019s creator Anysphere is in talks to raise at a $10 billion valuation<\/a>). As TechCrunch previously reported, Windsurf is the smaller of the two coding assistant startups, generating about $100 million in ARR compared to Cursor\u2019s $300 million<\/a>. OpenAI originally wanted to buy Cursor, but it\u2019s growing so quickly that it\u2019s not in the market to be sold<\/a>.<\/p>\n Although Windsurf hasn\u2019t confirmed the OpenAI acquisition reports, it has recently stepped up its public collaborations with OpenAI.<\/p>\n
