The ‘Firework’ hitmaker – who has four-year-old daughter Daisy with fiance Orlando Bloom – joined an all-female crew on an 11-minute Blue Origin flight to the edge of space earlier this month, and her former ‘American Idol’ colleague Luke Bryan can’t wait to hear about the mission in person because he’s so far only heard from her by text.<\/p>\n
Luke told E! News: \u201cI remember when I heard the news that she was going I was like, \u2018Wow, that\u2019s crazy that you\u2019re getting to go. But now when she got back safe I was like, \u2018Oh my god, wow. Awesome.\u2019 “<\/p>\n
Explaining they had exchanged texts but not spoken properly, Luke added: \u201cI\u2019ll be interested to hear her version of it. She was just like, \u2018It was just totally crazy.\u2019 She didn\u2019t really elaborate more than that. <\/p>\n
“But I\u2019m just glad everybody made it home safe. I was sucked into the moment.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nMeanwhile, ‘American Idol’ host Ryan Seacrest praised Katy – who was joined on the flight by Gayle King, Lauren Sanchez, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen and Kerianne Flynn – for being “brave” and making the trip.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cI\u2019m very, very happy that she did it and got back safely. She\u2019s braver than I am.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nAnd while judge Lionel Richie wouldn’t go into space if his “life depended on it”, he knew Katy would have embraced the trip.<\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cWhen she said she was going to space I said, \u2018You go right on.’<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI\u2019ll stay right down here. I didn\u2019t give her any advice because you know Katy. She\u2019s going to do exactly what she wants to do. But let me just say this to you. I\u2019m not going anywhere. I told her, \u2018I\u2019ll wait here.\u2019 God bless it, she came back.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nCarrie Underwood, who replaced Katy on ‘American Idol’, shared Lionel’s lack of enthusiasm for going into space herself.<\/p>\n
\nWhile she thought the experience was “crazy” and “amazing”, she added: \u201cI\u2019m good on the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nDuring the flight, Katy brought a symbolic memento into space \u2013 a small daisy, in tribute to her daughter \u2013 which she held up as she exited the capsule.<\/p>\n
\nSpeaking to reporters after the landing, Katy said: \u201cThis experience is second to being a mom. That\u2019s why it was hard for me to go because that\u2019s all my love right there, and I have to surrender and trust that the universe is going to take care of me and protect me and also my family and daughter.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cI am full up from being able to get that gift of being a mom, and to go to space is incredible, and I wanted to model courage, worthiness and fearlessness.\u201d<\/p>\n
