The Last of Us<\/em><\/a> video game players know that Tommy Miller was supposed to be present for (spoiler alert) his brother Joel Miller\u2019s death scene<\/a> \u2014 but this was not reflected in the HBO series.<\/p>\n

Gabriel Luna<\/strong>\u2019s Tommy was protecting the Jackson, Wyoming, compound from a hoard of Infected while Pedro Pascal<\/strong>\u2019s Joel was meeting an untimely death at the hands of Abby (Kaitlyn Dever<\/strong>).<\/p>\n

\u201cThe truth is, back when we were doing the first season, I talked to [showrunner] Craig [Mazin]<\/strong> and [game creator] Neil [Druckmann]<\/strong> about it,\u201d Luna, 42, told Esquire<\/em> <\/a>in an interview published on Sunday, April 20.<\/p>\n

The actor had a lot of thoughts about Tommy\u2019s involvement in Joel\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

\u201cWould Tommy be that careless to reveal Joel\u2019s identity? As a seasoned veteran, somebody who had to protect this city and keep it safe, would he be so trusting of strangers?\u201d Luna wondered. \u201cAnd then to walk into this ambush and be knocked out for that moment, unable to use any of his strength and skills to protect his brother, it always pinged in my mind \u2014 I wouldn\u2019t say false, but I don\u2019t know if Tommy would have been that trusting to walk into that trap.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tThe Last of Us fans are collectively mourning after a major death in the latest episode. Warning: Spoilers ahead for The Last of Us season 2, episode 2, which aired Sunday, April 20, on HBO. During Sunday\u2019s episode of the hit horror drama, lead character Joel Miller, played by Pedro Pascal, was shockingly killed off [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

He added, \u201cCraig turned to me and he\u2019s like, \u2018Don\u2019t worry, I have an idea.\u2019 Before the strike, he was starting to break the stories. He sent me this Bible-long text about where Tommy is and what he\u2019s doing instead. And it floored me.\u201d<\/p>\n

In The Last of Us Part II<\/em><\/a> \u2014 the video game released in 2020 \u2014 Tommy is on patrol with Joel when they get kidnapped by Abby and her crew. Tommy goes unconscious after getting hit in the head before Joel\u2019s death.<\/p>\n

Sunday\u2019s episode<\/a> of The Last of Us<\/em> showed Joel on patrol with Ellie\u2019s bestie Dina (Isabela Merced<\/strong>) when they save Abby from a hoard of Infected. Upon hearing Joel\u2019s name, Abby formulates a plan to bring him to the abandoned lodge where she\u2019s staying with her crew. They sedate Dina before killing Joel.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe idea there would be this role reversal where it would be Dina rather than Tommy, that works for her to be there,\u201d Luna said. \u201cSomebody who still loves Joel and sees him as family and would be devastated when this all goes down.\u201d<\/p>\n
