Dance Moms<\/span><\/i><\/a> alum<\/span> Kelly Hyland<\/b><\/a> revealed she has been diagnosed with breast cancer. Life & Style<\/em> has updates on Kelly\u2019s health battle<\/a> after she overcame a major milestone in her recovery.<\/p>\n Kelly announced she had been diagnosed with invasive carcinoma grade 3, a type of breast cancer<\/a>, in May 2024.<\/p>\n \u201cInvasive ductal carcinoma grade 3 is high-grade cancer. It\u2019s the most aggressive type and more likely to spread and grow faster,\u201d according to the Cancer Center website<\/a>. \u201cThese cells have lost many of the characteristics of normal breast cells and appear very different under the microscope.\u201d<\/p>\n The former reality star opened up about her diagnosis while speaking to E! News<\/em><\/a> on May 29, 2024.<\/p>\n \u201cThe first red flag was my significant weight loss<\/a>,\u201d Kelly explained. \u201cI lost enough that others noticed and would ask for my dieting hacks, but there was nothing I had changed in my day-to-day to cause the loss.\u201d<\/p>\n Kelly eventually found a lump in her breast in March 2023 during a self examination at home, and booked a mammogram to have it checked out. \u201cI had just had one done eight months prior and the results came back clean,\u201d she said. \u201cHowever, this new mammogram and sonogram<\/a> did not, it came back showing a mass.\u201d<\/p>\n The biopsy confirmed that the mass was malignant, which left Kelly in shock and \u201cscared of the battle [she] knew [she] was about to face<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n Kelly \u2013 who shares adult kids Brooke, Josh<\/strong> and Paige<\/strong><\/a> with ex-husband Randy Hyland<\/strong> \u2013 explained she wanted to tell her family about the diagnosis in person. However, the Florida resident was forced to make a phone call because her kids reside in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n \u201cI did a four-way call with all of my kids because I wanted to tell them at the same time and make sure they were all given the same information,\u201d she explained. \u201c[It] was a very hard conversation for all of us<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n Paige admitted she sensed something was wrong when her mom asked to schedule the call. \u201cI had an instant gut feeling something was off,\u201d she told the outlet. \u201cAs soon as she told us the bad news, I felt like I was in shock and then quickly hit with a whirlwind of emotions. Not only was I scared, I was angry, sad and confused why this would happen<\/a> to someone as amazing as my mother.\u201d<\/p>\n The diagnosis was especially difficult, as their grandmother died following her cancer battle in 2019. \u201cI understood the long road we had ahead<\/a> of us and it pained me to imagine my mother having to endure that same feeling,\u201d Paige added.<\/p>\n \u201cWe watched my Nana battle cancer for years<\/a> so I knew that we were at the start of a very long and challenging road,\u201d Brooke chimed in. \u201cI hated that I had to watch another important person in my life go through it.\u201d<\/p>\n Brooke shared good news with her Instagram followers on April 15, 2025, after she posted a video of her mother ringing a bell in the hospital in celebration of completing the second course of her cancer treatment.<\/p>\n \u201cSaying your kiddos are proud would be an understatement. We love you sm, mom @kellylhyland,\u201d Brooke captioned the video<\/a>.<\/p>\n In the video, Kelly rang the bell three times in honor of all of her kids, whom she hugged immediately after.
