Avoiding even more drama. The royal family opted to not give Prince Harry<\/strong><\/a> a part in King Charles III<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s coronation in order to not \u201ccomplicate matters,\u201d according to royal expert Gareth Russell<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The historian exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> on Tuesday, May 2, that it\u2019s not \u201csurprising that Prince Harry hasn\u2019t been given a role\u201d in his father\u2019s upcoming ceremony. Russell thinks that The Firm made the decision to \u201cnot to complicate matters further by having him involved \u2026 simply because \u2026 the royals are hoping that they can draw a line under the recent controversy with the Duke of Sussex.\u201d<\/p>\n Though the 38-year-old Archewell cofounder \u2014 who stepped down from his position as a senior royal in 2020 alongside wife Meghan Markle<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 does not have a part in the Saturday, May 6, ceremony. Prince William<\/strong><\/a> and his eldest son, Prince George<\/a>, will both play important roles. George, 9, will be one of four Pages of Honour<\/a> for his grandfather, 74, and the Prince of Wales, 40, is tasked with presenting his father with the Stole Royal<\/a> and the Robe Royal at Westminster Abbey.<\/p>\n Charles, meanwhile, is \u201cthrilled\u201d<\/a> that Harry is attending his and Queen Camilla<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s coronation, a source exclusively told Us<\/em> last month, adding that the monarch is \u201csad\u201d that Meghan, 41, won\u2019t be there. The Suits<\/em> alum, 41, will instead be at home in California with children Archie, 3, and daughter Lilibet, 22 months, to celebrate her son\u2019s 4th birthday<\/a>. Still, the king is happy that Harry still coming in the midst of the drama between the royals and the Sussexes, the insider said.<\/p>\n \u201cPrince Harry, as would the king and Prince William, would regret if he wasn\u2019t there,\u201d Russell told Us<\/em>. \u201cSo I think generally speaking, the consensus is it\u2019s right that he\u2019s there. It\u2019s probably best that he\u2019s there as King Charles\u2019 son rather than as a working prince of the United Kingdom.\u201d<\/p>\n Tensions have been high between Harry and his family since the January release of the BetterUp CIO\u2019s debut memoir, Spare<\/em>, as well as the many interviews<\/a> he and Meghan have done speaking about their experience as senior royals<\/a>.<\/p>\n In his book, Harry made numerous allegations against his father and brother, even going so far as to claim that he and William got into a physical fight over Meghan<\/a> and that Charles\u2019 team planted bad press about Harry and William<\/a> amid his controversial romance with Camilla<\/a>. (The couple tied the knot in 2005 following his divorce from the late Princess Diana<\/a>.)<\/p>\n Harry continued to take aim the royals<\/a> in March amid his lawsuit against several British publications, one of which he alleged tapped into his private phone calls in 2005.<\/p>\n \u201cThe Institution made it clear that we did not need to know anything about phone hacking and it was made clear to me that the royal family did not sit in the witness box because that could open up a can of worms,\u201d the former military pilot claimed in a statement at the time.<\/p>\n He added: \u201cThe Institution was without a doubt withholding information from me for a long time about NGN\u2019s phone hacking and that has only become clear in recent years as I have pursued my own claim with different legal advice and representation.\u201d<\/p>\n
