King Charles III<\/strong><\/a> shared a poignant message about the power of love in honor of Easter.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne of the puzzles of our humanity is how we are capable of both great cruelty and great kindness. This paradox of human life runs through the Easter story and in the scenes that daily come before our eyes \u2026 On Maundy Thursday, Jesus knelt and washed the feet of many of those who would abandon Him. His humble action was a token of His love that knew no bounds or boundaries and is central to Christian belief,\u201d Charles, 76, shared in a statement<\/a> on Thursday, April 17.<\/p>\n

Charles noted that a similar theme of love is present in \u201cother religious traditions, and in the hearts of all who seek the good of others.\u201d He further emphasized that the spirit of the Easter story is more important now than ever.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are three virtues that the world still needs \u2014 faith, hope and love. \u2018And the greatest of these is love,’\u201d the king wrote. \u201cIt is with these timeless truths in my mind, and my heart, that I wish you all a blessed and peaceful Easter.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tRoyal watchers have followed King Charles III\u2019s health battle after he was diagnosed with an undisclosed type of cancer in February 2024. \u201cDuring The King\u2019s recent hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement, a separate issue of concern was noted,\u201d a statement from Buckingham Palace read at the time. \u201cSubsequent diagnostic tests have identified a form [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Charles\u2019 heartfelt message came as he and his wife, Queen Camilla<\/strong>, attended the annual Royal Maundy Service at Durham Cathedral in England on Thursday. At the event \u2014 which is held in a different church each year \u2014 Charles handed out specially minted coins to 76 men and women in a reference to his age.<\/p>\n

Camilla, 77, previously filled in for her husband at the 2024 service, which Charles skipped amid his cancer treatment. News broke last February that Charles was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer<\/a> following a procedure on his prostate. He briefly took a step back from public-facing duties before returning to work in March 2024.<\/p>\n

In his traditional Christmas Day speech, Charles expressed his gratitude for the support he\u2019s received throughout his health battle. (His daughter-in-law Princess Kate Middleton<\/strong> was also treated for cancer last year, revealing in January that she is in remission<\/a>.)<\/p>\n

\u201cFrom a personal point of view, I offer special, heartfelt thanks to the selfless doctors and nurses who, this year, have supported me and other members of my family through the uncertainties and anxieties of illness, and have helped provide the strength, care and comfort we have needed,\u201d Charles said in December 2024. \u201cI am deeply grateful, too, to all those who have offered us their own kind words of sympathy and encouragement.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last month, Buckingham Palace announced<\/a> that Charles was hospitalized. \u201cFollowing scheduled and ongoing medical treatment for cancer this morning, The King experienced temporary side effects that required a short period of observation in hospital,\u201d a March 27 statement revealed. \u201cHis Majesty\u2019s afternoon engagements were, therefore, postponed.\u201d<\/p>\n

During his annual Christmas address, which he delivered on Wednesday at Fitzrovia Chapel, Charles, 76, referenced his own cancer diagnosis, which Buckingham Palace [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Charles soon returned to Clarence House to recover, but items on his schedule for the following day were postponed \u201cas a precautionary measure.\u201d The palace later confirmed that Charles\u2019 \u201cusual working week\u201d would continue as of April 1.<\/p>\n
