Contestants on The Masked Singer<\/em><\/a> prep for the show in a number of ways, but few of them get help from their own in-house vocal coach. Paparazzo, however, was lucky enough to have a Grammy-winning singer in his corner.<\/p>\n

During the Wednesday, April 16, episode of the Fox singing competition, Paparazzo was unmasked as Matthew Lawrence<\/strong><\/a>, who ended his time on the series by singing a song by his girlfriend Rozonda \u201cChilli\u201d Thomas<\/strong><\/a>\u2019 band, TLC.<\/p>\n

Lawrence, 45, exclusively told Us Weekly<\/em> that he was super intimidated to sing \u201cUnpretty\u201d given his personal connection to the tune.<\/p>\n

\u201cAre you kidding me?! I don\u2019t wanna butcher her song,\u201d the Boy Meets World<\/em> alum<\/a> quipped. \u201cNot to mention I had to ask [Chilli\u2019s] bandmate [Tionne \u201cT-Boz\u201d Watkins<\/strong>], \u2019cause she wrote it. I had to get clearance from her. I was like, \u2018Oh, this is embarrassing.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

As for how \u201cUnpretty\u201d even became an option for him to sing, Lawrence has only himself to blame. When he signed on for The Masked Singer<\/em>, he had to fill out a form listing some of his favorite songs, and he chose the TLC track as one of his \u201cguilty pleasure\u201d tracks. He didn\u2019t think producers would actually give him \u201cUnpretty,\u201d but he notes he\u2019s loved the song since it debuted in 1999.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat darn thing was stuck in my head [when it came out],\u201d he recalled. \u201cEvery time I was in the shower or in the car, I was singing it. So I wrote it down, not thinking that it would ever get chosen, but it did. They chose it! I was like, \u2018OK, uh, this is gonna be interesting.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tMatthew Lawrence officially started Chilli following his divorce from Cheryl Burke. The actor\u00a0and the TLC singer, whose real name is Rozonda Thomas, started seeing each other romantically in November 2022, three months after her rep told Us Weekly that they were \u201cjust friends\u201d when they stepped out together in Hawaii. By the New Year, the [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Chilli, 54, was apparently a good sport about the situation, even giving her boyfriend of two years<\/a> some tips on how to belt it out.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe\u2019s such a pro,\u201d Lawrence gushed. \u201cThe main tip was that you gotta pace yourself because you can lose your breath \u2014 really, really pace yourself when you\u2019re singing, especially if you\u2019re moving around and doing things and you\u2019re worried about all this stuff. \u2026 [Your voice] is a muscle, and I\u2019m not exercising that muscle, so pace yourself. She gave me a couple of good little licks to do. She was great, man.\u201d<\/p>\n

And was Chilli satisfied with her partner\u2019s performance?<\/p>\n

\u201cYes. Whether it\u2019s real or not, she made it seem like she was very impressed,\u201d Lawrence said. \u201cShe was so sweet, so supportive. She really loved the \u2018Hallelujah\u2019 one. That was her favorite.\u201d (The Brotherly Love<\/em> veteran<\/a> sang Leonard Cohen<\/strong>\u2019s iconic song during Shrek Night<\/a> in February.)<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\tWho is that? It\u2019s the question asked by panelists on The Masked Singer multiple times in each episode, and the answer is: everybody. Since the show debuted in January 2019, the celebrity contestants have included Joey Fatone, Michelle Williams, Tori Spelling, Mickey Rourke, Patti LaBelle, Kelly Osbourne, Bret Michaels, Lil Wayne, Jordyn Woods, Wendy Williams, [\u2026]\t\t<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

While Lawrence made it pretty far on The Masked Singer<\/em> given his lack of pro singing experience, he said he had to be convinced to do the show because of a past trauma involving a failed Broadway audition<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a real fear of singing,\u201d the actor revealed. \u201cI bombed a really big Broadway audition in front of a lot of famous faces. It was awful, really bad. It was for Cry-Baby<\/em> to play the Johnny Depp<\/strong> character in the show, and they were doing an adaptation for Broadway. I don\u2019t know if it ever got made or whatever happened to it, \u2019cause I blacked it out of my memory. \u2026 And since then, I never really got back on stage.\u201d<\/p>\n
