The 118 is on the move! Ryan Murphy<\/strong><\/a>\u2019s first responder series\u00a09-1-1\u00a0<\/i><\/a>has been canceled by FOX after six seasons \u2014 and already found a new home.<\/p>\n \u201cThanks to the creative drive of Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk<\/strong><\/a> and Tim Minear<\/strong><\/a>, as well as the talented cast,\u00a09-1-1\u00a0<\/i>has been one of the most defining and original dramas on network television over the last six seasons and we are honored to bring it to the esteemed group of series on ABC,\u201d Craig Erwich<\/strong>, the president of Disney Television Group, said in a Monday, May 1, statement<\/a>. \u201cIt\u2019s a privilege to keep\u00a09-1-1\u00a0<\/i>in the family with 20th Television production, and we look forward to telling more heart-racing and uplifting stories<\/a> about these beloved characters on our air.\u201d<\/p>\n 9-1-1<\/i>, which premiered its first season in January 2018, follows a group of Los Angeles-based first responders<\/a> across the fire, police and emergency operator departments. Angela Bassett<\/strong><\/a>, Peter Krause<\/strong><\/a>, Oliver Stark<\/a>,<\/strong> Kenneth Choi<\/strong>, Aisha Hinds<\/strong><\/a> and Ryan Guzman<\/strong><\/a> star on the fan-favorite series<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not a strict procedural, you know, I always think of it as a comic book about first responders come to life<\/a>,\u201d Krause, 57, exclusively told\u00a0Us Weekly\u00a0<\/i>in January 2021<\/a> of the series, which he also executive produces. \u201cYou could easily take some of the shots and some of the storylines of\u00a09-1-1<\/i>, put it into a comic book form and it would make perfect sense.\u201d<\/p>\n Season 1 of\u00a09-1-1\u00a0<\/i>also starred Connie Britton<\/strong><\/a>, who exited after its first finale. Jennifer Love Hewitt<\/strong><\/a> later joined the show in season 2, playing Stark\u2019s character\u2019s TV sister.<\/p>\n \u201c[My daughter, Autumn, was] studying emergency situations in school the other day and she was like, \u2018Oh, if you get in an emergency situation, just call my mommy. She\u2019s not going to help you. She\u2019s going to send someone else to do it,\u2019 and I was like, \u2018Thanks a lot, babe,\u2019\u201d the\u00a0Can\u2019t Hardly Wait\u00a0<\/i>actress, 44, previously\u00a0told\u00a0Us\u00a0<\/i>in August 2019<\/a>\u00a0of joining the series as Maddie Kendall. \u201cShe asked me, \u2018How come you always answer the phone, but you don\u2019t actually help anyone?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Hewitt \u2014 who shares three children<\/a> with husband Brian Hallisay<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 took a brief hiatus from\u00a09-1-1\u00a0<\/i>after giving birth to son Aiden<\/a> in September 2021. Maddie ultimately returned during season 5<\/a> after welcoming her own child<\/a>, daughter Jee-Yun.<\/p>\n \u201cI knew when we started the storyline\u00a0where it was going to end up. And taking the break to go have a real baby and then come back to it was strange and a little daunting,\u201d Hewitt told\u00a0Entertainment Tonight<\/i>\u00a0in March 2022<\/a>. \u201cIt was really important to us to tell the real story. Postpartum depression has been done on other shows, it\u2019s something that\u2019s out there. It\u2019s something that people talk about. But it\u2019s usually a lighter version of what that looks like. Or the diagnosis is lighter than what Maddie has dealt with.\u201d<\/p>\n She continued: \u201cHers is\u00a0a really extreme version of what postpartum can cause\u00a0<\/a>in someone\u2019s life, heightened by having a baby in a pandemic on the show and everything else that she\u2019s been through as a character. So I was really excited and proud of the show and proud of Fox for really getting in there and telling this story for all the women who are out there that might be suffering from this at the moment\u00a0or have had that in the past because it\u2019s a real thing.\u201d<\/p>\n 9-1-1<\/i>\u00a0season 6 currently airs new episodes on FOX Mondays, followed by spinoff\u00a09-1-1: Lone Star\u00a0<\/i><\/a>on Tuesdays.
