The company is cutting one of the two shifts at the CAMI plant in Ontario, and will idle the facility for 20 weeks beginning in May.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The cuts are the newest twist in BrightDrop\u2019s short but somewhat tumultuous history. It created BrightDrop as a separate entity <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2021\/01\/12\/gm-targets-delivery-companies-with-new-ev-business-unit-brightdrop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">within GM in 2021<\/a>, but <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2023\/11\/16\/gm-absorbs-commercial-ev-unit-brightdrop-ceo-is-out\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">absorbed it in 2023<\/a>. In 2024 BrightDrop\u2019s vans suffered a recall after a <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2024\/01\/17\/gm-recall-brightdrop-vans-drive-unit-fires\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">few battery fires<\/a>.
