The 63-year-old said while his son, James Wilkie, 22, is keen on pursuing a career in acting, his twin daughters, Tabitha Hodge and Marion Loretta Elwell, 13, have shown little interest in following their parents\u2019 Hollywood path. <\/p>\n
Referring to one of his girls, he told People: \u201cIf you say, \u2018What about you?\u2019 She says \u2018Nope, no absolutely not\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s repelled by the idea of performing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Matthew\u2019s son, James, however, is determined to try his hand at acting. <\/p>\n
\nThe actor added: \u201cI think he is gonna try, yeah. He\u2019s very smart.<\/p>\n
\n\u201cHe has a really good education too, so he has a lot of different things he can do, but I think right now he likes acting.\u201d <\/p>\n
\nWhile Matthew supports James’ ambitions, he also made it clear he and his actress wife Sarah Jessica Parker, 58, are there to help only when needed. <\/p>\n
\nHe said: \u201cI\u2019ll give advice if I\u2019m asked, but my wife is with him when he does auditions. It\u2019s self-tape nowadays, and she\u2019ll read with him and tell him, \u2018It\u2019s not good\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nMatthew, who is known for his roles in \u2018Ferris Bueller\u2019s Day Off\u2019 and \u2018The Producers\u2019, added: \u201cWe definitely support him, but only if he wants to.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nJames made his on-screen debut earlier this year on \u2018Elsbeth\u2019 \u2013\u00a0a CBS show in which Matthew worked alongside his son. <\/p>\n
\nHe said he was \u201cso proud and happy\u201d with their collaboration.<\/p>\n
\n\u2018Sex and the City\u2019 actress Sarah has spoken in the past about her desire for her children to become independent and learn the value of hard work. <\/p>\n
\nAppearing on iHeartRadio’s \u2018Table for Two\u2019 with Bruce Bozzi in 2023, she said: \u201cYou want your children to understand what it means to earn money, what it takes to earn money, the value of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\nShe went on to emphasise the importance of providing for their children\u2019s basic needs while encouraging them to develop aspirations.<\/p>\n
\nSarah added: \u201cThe important things in life: books and food and interesting experiences. <\/p>\n
\n\u201cBut they should pine for things, they should want things.\u201d<\/p>\n
