In a national protest dubbed \u201cHands Off,\u201d demonstrators from New York to Alaska poured into city streets<\/a> on Saturday, April 5, to send a direct message to President Donald Trump<\/strong><\/a> and the nation’s unelected leader<\/a>, aspiring restaurateur<\/a> and alleged deadbeat dad<\/a> Elon Musk<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Given Trump’s plummeting approval ratings<\/a> and Musk’s, well, whole<\/a> anti-charismatic<\/a> deal<\/a> (to put<\/a> it charitably<\/a>), it’s hardly surprising that the entire country became one big Tesla lot<\/a>. As Vanity Fair<\/em> reported earlier<\/a>, over 500,000 people had expressed early interest in a local protest. The final number of participants has yet to be tallied, which is unsurprising given the magnitude of the demonstrations, but early estimates<\/a> put the participant number in the millions.<\/p>\n \u201cThey\u2019re dismantling our country. They\u2019re looting our government. And they think we\u2019ll just watch,\u201d the Hands Off! website says<\/a> as an explanation for the civil action.<\/p>\n \u201cThey want to strip America for parts\u2014shuttering Social Security offices, firing essential workers, eliminating consumer protections, and gutting Medicaid\u2014all to bankroll their billionaire tax scam. They\u2019re handing over our tax dollars, our public services, and our democracy to the ultra-rich.\u201d<\/p>\n In response to the national protests, the White House said via statement, \u201cPresident Trump\u2019s position is clear: he will always protect Social Security<\/a>, Medicare, and Medicaid<\/a> for eligible beneficiaries. Meanwhile, the Democrats\u2019 stance is giving Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare benefits to illegal aliens, which will bankrupt these programs and crush American seniors.\u201d<\/p>\n Despite the large number of people flooding the streets, the AP reports<\/a> that most demonstrations appeared peaceful, with no arrests reported as of midday Sunday.
